He's a weird kind of player. He's a PG/SG/SF. He made a big splash as a rookie at PG. His outside shooting was suspect for most of his early career, but he was very effective at getting his shots at close enough range. As a PG, he's HUGE (size). He's got the skills to play it well enough.

With NO, he was a SF.

If Neil wants to swing for the fences, a trade for Evans and for Mirotic would give us a starting lineup of:

    Dame/CJ at guard
    Nurk
    Evans/Mirotic at forward

and a bench of Davis, Aminu, ET, Napier, Collins, etc.

Solid 1-5 plus a decent looking bench. Competitive? Not sure, but much better than our current chances as far as I can see.

We could use our $12.5M TPE on him. The TPE can be split so we'd sill have $9M of TPE left. We would have to make roster space.

The TPE can't be used to re-sign him though.

Without some major roster shake-up and renouncing players, Portland would only have the Tax MLE (~$5M +/-) to be able to sign him. My guess is he will get larger offers.

No, it cannot be used to re-sign him. It's just a way to swing for the fences THIS season.

He did sign for less than the Tax MLE this season.

What about a simple swap based on Napier for Evans. Gives Portland another guy who can create and score. He can be used in a 3 guard lineup.

For Memphis with Conley out they need a PG and they can see if Napier is a long term fit for them as either a backup or, if they decide to trade Conley, a starter.

Napier and Layman for Evans works. Could even include laker/minn 2nd.

Evans is Memphis' PG with Conley out.

Of course we could, but we could do that whether we trade for him now, or not. It wouldn't be easy, but if we could get under the luxury tax threshold, we'd have the full MLE of $8.826 million to offer him. Of course, so would a lot of other teams.

Whether, or not, we can resign him I'd offer a chunk of our TPE + a second rounder for him just to see what this team would look like with a versatile 6'6" shooting guard playing next to Dame and/or a 6'6" small forward/legitimate 3rd option playing next to Dame + C.J. Even if we can't resign Evans come summer, it may shed some more light on whole can Dame and C.J. coexist debate. As in, which would be better: trade C.J. for a bigger guard, or try to move other pieces for a legitimate 3rd option at SF.

Moving CJ's salary is one way to possibly free up a good chunk of cap space. Depending on how much we take back.

Which is why it might be nice to audition Evans for 30 games, to see if he's a viable C.J. replacement/improvement.

I would try and work Bazz and Dillon Brooks in the deal. Adding Biggie would give them something to rebuild with.

If we get under the luxury tax enough, we'd have the Full MLE, correct? That's ~$8.5M. EDIT: Just saw BNMs post.

The NBA should let teams sign player a to mutli-year deals with raises based on exceptions. Ex. Evans Yr1: $8.5M (MLE)
    Evans Yr2: $14M (Early Bird)
    Evans Yr3: $18M (Full Bird)

I'd support getting him and trying to win him over. He could make us much better this year, and if that's possible for someone were gonna lose anyway (Vonleh) and a 2nd round pick which we could buy back in the future, theres really no risk.

We'd have to be far enough below the apron that using the MLE wouldn't put us over. That'd be about 5M under the tax line to start. And then we'd be hard capped at the apron line.

Would y'all do Turner and a 1st for Evans and expirings? Could shed us Turners contract for a 1st, which is already an option we should look at. Opens up full MLE to resign Evans, who s basically a much better version of Turner. Memphis is already in cap space he'll with Conley, Parsons, and Gasol, and can't land FAs anyway, so maybe they'd value the pick enough to take Turner?

Please, please, please don't let him go to OKC! I'd definitely be in favor of Olshey cock blocking Presti on this one. Unlike Rod Strickland - The Sequel, we actually have a need for Evans. He could immediately be penciled as our starting SF and would be a HUGE upgrade.

With all things being equal, it'd work with simply shedding Turners or Leonard's contract.
