I assume we'd lose Nurkic. Maybe I should read the thread to get educated. Have all you brains decided we wouldn't?

(I usually just read the thread title and the last page.)

Suppose that the Blazers see Collins as their center of the future. If that’s the case, taking on Jordan as the starter for the next year or two makes more sense than paying Nurkic big money on a long contract. I don’t know if there’s a deal that makes sense to both clubs, but I can see the possible reasoning behind such a move.

    1.) Contract Situation
    2.) Age
    3.) Declining, Athleticism-Based Game
4.) Our Guards Don't Throw Lobs
5.) He Wouldn't Like Being Here
6.) He Wouldn't Improve Us Enough To Sway a Series (Nurk is a better defender at this point)
7.) We'd Have To Give Up Nurk & Picks

If they would bring back hand checking and lower some of the favoritism towards scoring, we would see defensive role players return. People that can lock down stars.

Jordan is as worthless as tits on a boar in the fourth quarter, plus he is a petulant dickhead.

Sometimes you hate players and I'm not entirely sure why.

Why is he a petulant dickhead?

I wouldn't say it's groupthink, there are multiple reasons why multiple posters don't want to give up Nurk/take on DeAndre.

    1) Some think Nurk will turn into an All-Star on his own, as he's still younger than Marc Gasol was the day he came into the league and already shows/has shown recently the ability to face-up J, pass in traffic, play hellacious team D, and run the P&R with two of the better P&R guards in the league. So there's that...
    2) Some think that offloading Moe/ET/Meyers is a bit of a fools' errand, in that they're sunk costs we just need to suck up and recognize as errors, and not throw good assets (cash/young players/picks) after bad.
    3) Some think DeAndre is fools' gold, in that his game is extremely limited and precludes him from playing in the late stages of important games, and therefore doesn't do us a whole lot of good if our backup has to play GSW/HOU/OKC/SAS in the 4th quarter.
    4) Some think DeAndre's contract is worse/more prohibitive than our bad ones, in that his 23M contract (the same as Mo+Nurk+Meyers), and more next year, would make it prohibitive to do much of anything in terms of roster flex (as we'd be hard-capped over the apron, and even more so if he opts in to his players' option for next year)
    5) Some think his trade kicker of 15% makes this year's cap hit 24.5M or so (which means that even if we give up one of ET/Mo/Meyers we're still going another 5M+/12M/12M farther into the lux tax, making the total expenditure roughly 40M for this year's DeAndre), and that exacerbates the situation in 4)
    6) Some, since he is potentially a UFA this summer, and based on his previous UFA foibles, have no confidence that we can re-sign him, think that giving up 4 years of Nurk control as he enters his prime for a potential half-season rental of a good-rebounding-and-D center than you can't really rely on isn't the best use of your assets
    7) Some think that, even if he DID opt in and even if he DID say he'd sign an extension, the value going forward of paying him upwards of 25M a year for the next 4 years of his decline is not better than just paying Nurk 20ishM a year for the next 4 years as he enters his prime playing with a team he likes.
    8) Some would wonder why LAC would take back Mo/ET/meyers, when they're trying to maximize cap space for this summer, one of the reasons DJ is on the market (they don't want to be stuck if he opts in).

With all that said, I don't know of anyone that looks at our team and says "Dammit, if only we had a center we'd be legit". If this discussion was about Klay Thompson or Brandon Beal or something (defensive wing that can play a bunch of O), you may have a point. I don't see that groupthink has a play in this.

Thanks. How considerate! A thoughtful intro for we who just read the last page. Please do this on every page of every thread.

7a.) If Nurkic stays, Nurkic will start at PF, where he failed alongside Jokic.
8.) Under Rivers, Jordan got used to complaining nonstop to the refs.
8a.) Jordan's not smart or verbal, so the refs will dominate him.

Let me tell you something about Wookee's opinion of DeAndre Jordan.

    It is correct.

DJ can dunk a lob. Whoopidyfuckindoo.

His basketball IQ is Meyers level, he just defaults to aggressiveness instead of wussiness.
You can't have him in the game anytime that it matters, so he's no good to us if we want to go to the next level. Nurk is better now, and will be way better in a year or two.

If they trade Nurk for Jordan I'll probably never visit this forum again.

If we could convert CJ/Nurk into a star player, and I'm talkin a really really good player like Kawhi Leonard, then I would bring in Jordan.

That's why I put 0 stock in his FG%. We should be looking at trading for Brandon Wright then, he was always in the mid-60s in FG%, and would cost 5 times less.

Yeah, if you have Dame+A superstar without a Center, then yes. Our situation is perfectly set up to where trading for DeAndre would be a huge mistake. I'd boo him when he'd be introduced for us as a way to boo Olshey and the front office.
