I do not understand what the Clippers are doing.

Apparently they bought into the Lou Williams Hype Train. That team needs to be torn down to the studs. People are depressed about our mediocre roster, but Dame/CJ/Nurk is muuuuuuuuuch better than Lou/Harris/Jordan. They don't have a single star quality player to build around. I have no idea what they're doing. Their players have value. They should be dumping them for either young players or draft picks.

I wouldn’t doubt Jerry West just yet. There’s a plan there. Besides, without cap space, teams will still call about Williams in the future, and being under contract makes him more valuable. They’re not stuck with him.

I'm guessing the number is low. And it's essentially only a 2 yr deal. Offers prolly aren't that great now given that his deal expires and he becomes a UFA in the summer. Extending him now moves this up to a later date when potentially there might be more suitors.

It's a value deal for the Clipps. I'm sure they held out as long as they could and didn't get a quality 1st round offer for Lou, so they got a hometown discount to resign him. I'm sure they will end up flipping next season at the deadline if he keeps his play up.

What are the details of the Williams contract? If it's a decent contract, then they just created an asset out of nothing. Williams locked into a 3-year contract is worth more than a $7M expiring contract...if the salary figures make sense.

We don't know what sort of deal Lou is getting. It might be $30M / 3 years for all we know which would be both good for this season and easy to flip for assets in the future.

The battle between Nuggets, Blazers, Pelicans, Jazz and Clippers for 6-8 spots will be very tight. Warriors, Rockets, Spurs, Timberwolves and Thunder are locked for 1-5 IMO.

    Agreed.
I think West knows exactly what he's doing.
Any idea what the dollar figure was/is? With him making $7M per, I think the new contract has to start <$9M per year.
Which Portland fan wouldn't trade Lou for Turner in a second?

Read on twitter < 12 mil annually which is a bargain, but waiting on Woj et al to confirm. That seems too good to be true.

More reasons to get under the tax. If we have the non tax paying MLE we could probably sign a really good player.

But why would a really good player come here, versus elsewhere, for MLE? Free Agency is NOT the path forward.

That’s a fair question. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give ourselves a chance though. For example, I could see Barton getting the non tax MLE, and we’d definitely have a shot at him.

I just don't know... Griffin was their best trade chip. They got Harris, who is a nice piece, but hardly a superstar. He's not even an All-Star. They got a first round pick, which probably won't be very good now that Detroit is rolling. They got Avery Bradley, who will probably leave after this season (or be traded). Personally I thought Detroit got the better end of the deal. Not sure why people were so impressed with what LAC got.

Evan Turner will be making double what Lou will next season.

    That is just... shocking.

It's not really. We just got fucked over because the one year that we had cap space, was the one year that everyone was spending like it was the first day after EBT cards got filled for the month.

    Steaks for everyone!
