He won’t even be on the bench.

According to that Shamsports Capulator, as of right now Belinelli would be a little too expensive. I'm not sure if it's right or not. I think worst case scenario we could sign someone after a few more games. The question becomes if anyone will sign with us though or should we just promote Baldwin?

the rotation is set...he's cheap..and just practice sparring partner material...that's what 3rd stringers are...the rotations have already been won...we're not bringing in Joe Johnson or an old vet now in my view. Our best 10 players will get all the burn unless it's a blowout or garbage time period

Okay? We're talking about how we are required (by league rules) to have 14 "core" guys and we only have 13. The only option we have to remain under the luxury tax but also to meet the NBAs requirement of 14 core players is to declare Wade Baldwin as a core guy and no longer a 2-way player. We have him signed to a contract that is big enough to be considered a core contract. That's what I'm saying. What does any of what you'r saying have to do with that....?

Promoting Baldwin is the only way.

    Wrong.
Portland can sign any 0 or 1 year player to a minimum FA contract.

'Promoting' Baldwins contract converts it to a nba minumum contract. The exact same type as they would sign any other FA to

Baldwin's contract is already the level of a minumum cintract. How could Portland sign someone to a minimum contract and not go over the LT?

Baldwin is getting paid a D-League salary, which does not count towards Portlands salary cap.

Most D-League players make < $100k. Players on 2-way contracts have the potential to make $200k if they are brought up to play with the NBA team for 45 days. This still is not calculated in Portland's cap figure.

The ONLY thing the 2-way contract does is prevents Baldwin (& Wilcox) from signing with other NBA teams. For that exclusive right, they get a bump in pay.

Portland has to sign a player to an NBA contact (which is different from the D-League 2-way) to meet the 14 player roster requirment.

That players NBA contract is pro-rated across the 82 games. Portland has about 1/3 the games left, so the salary charge (& how much that player will get paid) will be 1/3 of the contract value.

Only being about $500 under the tax line, Portland can only afford to sign someone to a rookie or 1 year FA minumum contract (about $900k to $1.3M per year). The pro-rated value of that will be $300-$400k.

It doesn't matter who that player is. Just needs to be a minimum contract for a player who has <2 years experience

You speak the truth Scal. This abused puppy just revels in bringing his Negative Nancy takes to try to get under our skin. Kinda sad that his life is so boring, he/she has nothing better to do.

I believe if the Blazers felt Belinelli or Joe Johnson could be the piece to get them further on their quest, they would have no problem, going above the Tax penalty line.

If Pat could magically up his numbers mid season that would be great!

Joe Johnson would really help this team! I am not getting any hopes up though for either Johnson or Belinelli.

That’s the problem with these vet buyouts. Even if we wanted them, they have better options out there.
