Theres a difference between a grocery store full of strangers and a teacher who at the very least knows every student by name.
Anyone who thinks students are too dumb to figure out which teacher is carrying and which is not. Doesn't give kids enough credit.

Starting the day would be a problem.
Young children like to hug their teachers without permission.
Even when they've been told not to & their parents have been made aware of the situation.

Posting here is one thing but I am going to write to my state representatives after I attend a local meeting at the school here soon to discuss the issue. I feel it's important to voice my concerns and hopefully more people will actually take what actions they can to add to the process. I belong to a neighborhood watch group where I live but now it's getting to be a national watch sadly

I hope that works, but I have less faith in government.

As a staff we're talking about what we'd do if a mass shooter would come for our school.
The plan is to hold drills after spring break.

Not that I'm opposed to drills--I'm not--but it's unfortunate and frustrating that that seems to be the most effective option that the schools have available to them at this point.

I recall hearing one of the Stoneman-Douglas teachers saying that she initially thought they were having another drill--suggesting that they already had a procedure in place and had had drills prior--until she saw one of her students had been shot.

It just makes me wonder if active-shooter drills have any value. Still, it's better than doing nothing.

Oh I agree, I have no clue how a drill is going to help.
I just see so many problems with believing you can plan for a mass shooting like you can a fire drill.

But it was suggested by a fellow staff member so....

When kids graduate high school reading at a 3rd grade level, the "great" teachers deserve disrespect.

my experience is reality....your blanket insult to teachers across the board was not.....there are a lot of reasons for your poll that are not on a teacher's shoulders....parenting..lack of parenting...urban strife in inner cities....yeah...you found a poll.....maybe the invention of the IPhone and video games had some affect on the attention span of the youth of America? Maybe dad is too busy watching the game or mom is working 3 jobs to pay rent...yeah..it's the teachers fault....and why recognize success? Doesn't prop up your argument that teachers aren't good enough for you?

There is no information or link to explain his graph. Is it nationwide? One year? One school? One state?

Nevermind, here is where Denny got that.

Now it's being reported that 3 other sheriff deputies didn't enter the building.

The first four officers on the scene didn't enter the building to confront the shooter or to check on children who had already been shot.

    Very sad.

I'm glad to have finally exposed that the river @riverman is referring to is the Chicago River.
