I'm genuinely curious. When we're saying that we should keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill--with which I don't necessarily disagree--what is the threshold for determining what qualifies? Anyone on psychotropic medication? Anyone with any form of diagnosed mental disorder?

    Zero tolerance.

    If you have anxiety attacks:

    NO GUN FOR YOU.

    You suffer from clinical depression???:

    NO GUN FOR YOU.

    Schizophrenia??:

    NO GUN FOR YOU.

    Suicidal???:

    NO GUN FOR YOU.

The list goes on. And please, save me the slippery slope argument.

Dillon roof was mentally ill. He went and fellowshipped with fellow Christians, and then shot them to death. One was 87 years old.

Now his FUCKING SISTER is taking weapons to school!!!

That's not really his shtick @Chris Craig and I was really just ribbing him by calling him cuck.

I truly thought you'd know I'm joking as that is nowhere near my normal vernacular but whatever... You're Trumpian response is... Sad...

    Chris rock basically said:

"If 100 people ever got stabbed at the same time, in the same place, by the same person, you know what that would mean?

    97 people deserved to die."

    It's just extremely ignorant though.

If you cram a hundred people in a rail car, as is common in many Asian nations, and all of a sudden people start screaming and falling, people won't know what's happening. Knives aren't extremely obvious. You'd be surprised how much damage someone can do with a knife.

"You can't cheat, you're a good guy!" is not a really great way to acquit yourself. "So much for the tolerant left" is a bankrupt response. Flaccid. Impotent.

Maybe you'd be. Not me. Ever see someone get stabbed? I have. Ask @Chris Craig he's been stabbed. He's alive and able to tell the story.

The bottom line is you're talking about Asia and we're talking about gun violence in AMERICA.

That's how we know you're grasping at straws right now.

Not making one. You should know me better than that. I always start by trying to understand the other person's position. What I'm looking at right now is how this could be accomplished.

Far as I can tell, there's two parts to this: keeping guns out of the hands of those previously diagnosed, and getting them out of the hands of those newly diagnosed.

    For the first part:
    • I presume the background check process would need to be strengthened and loopholes eliminated.
    • This probably requires criminalizing any private party gun sales, because the necessary checks wouldn't occur in them.
    • Then, I assume there would have to be some sort of integration of medical reporting with the background check process
      • This would also probably require a major adjustment to HIPAA laws.
    For the second:
    • I don't see any way to do this without creating a national database.
    • Medical professionals would then report any mental disorder diagnoses to the ATF
    • Post diagnosis, gun owners would be compensated fair value for registered firearms which would then be confiscated by the government (since private party sales are illegal).
Does this look about right, or is there something you would say should be added or altered?

That wasn't really directed to you even though it was said in response. I was more preempting others slippery slope arguments.

I'm all for a change in HIPPA laws. I'm all for outlawing Private gun sales. We can't have private alcohol sales can we?

I was told the other day there is already a national database but I didn't believe it because I know that's what the gun lobby says they don't want.

There's a database for MJ users!!! Why not one for gun owners!?!? Sorry, not sorry.

Medical professionals have to report domestic abuse to women and children, I don't see any difference in reporting mental disorders.

The background check needs to be strengthened yes. No don't criminalize private party sales just require background checks for those too...create a system for that. If you are going to buy a gun then you should be willing to allow a medical background check. What is there to hide if your not mentally ill. Its going to be a lot of work no matter what, but it needs to be done regardless.

Did you watch any of the videos of the Las Vegas shooter? It's the same difference. A bunch of people crammed in a tight space. Nowhere to run. That's not specific to China or the US. If you have nowhere to run, and you don't know what's happening, a lot of people can be hurt or die.

So, you have no definition. No selection criteria. No process.
    Sound about right?

Thank you that is a start. Now you guys want to remove the right to defend themselves from all persons on any list now or in the future under this singular category. Is this correct?
