PAHRUMP, NV (FOX5) - Longtime Pahrump resident and radio host Arthur Bell died Friday at the age of 72, according to the Nye County Sheriff's Office. Bell died at his home in Pahrump, the sheriff's office said. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine his exact cause of death. Bell was the original owner of radio KYNE. But he may have been best known for his conspiracy theory and paranormal radio show "Coast to Coast," which was nationally syndicated. http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/37955960/radio-host-art-bell-passed-away-at-72
Oh man.... I loved Art. I spent so many nights working, listening to his show. When his wife died, that was probably the saddest I have ever felt for someone I didn't actually know. This one really bums me out.
That sucks. I used to listen to his show back in the 90's and early 2000's. His wife just had a kid about a year ago. That said the guy was a nutter. On his last show(s), the conspiracy/ghosts/aliens stuff didn't work as well, and the show went too political (imho). And when he went full Trump mode in 2015/16? That just made his shows/twitter feed/facebook page no longer entertaining. It had became a case of "out of sight, out of mind", and when he did came back, his show lost its touch. And it didn't help that he kept retiring (boy that got old). He definitely was a master at his craft. Thankfully there are tons of his old shows on the internet.
Yup. He did not exit the industry gracefully. I was pretty pissed when he did the XM show and everyone had to sign up for Sirius just to listen, so I did, and then he bailed after just a few months. He definitely burned some bridges. Then he did the free online show and he quit that after some weird circumstances. Either way I’m going to miss the old bastard. I loved listening to him on coast to coast.
Midnight in the desert. Loved his show. He was a great radio host, had a great voice, a great interviewer, and a keen mind. He will be very much missed.
The thing I always liked about Art is that he would ask great questions, even if you could tell that he was just playing along. He didn't always buy in with a guest, but he'd still give them a chance to talk and explain. He always had an open mind. He'd ask tough questions and he wouldn't let them off the hook. That's the worst part about Noory. He's a horrible interviewer. He doesn't ask good questions and he'll let guests off the hook if they don't answer to his liking. Art would ask the questions that I would ask. It always felt like you were sitting in his garage having a conversation.
Noory always works god into his interviews. Really annoying. After that he just reads off a list of pre-scripted questions that some intern wrote up. Bell was a great interviewer.
Yup. And there's a whole generation of listeners who don't even know Art existed. They started listening with Noory, and they have no idea that there was a whole other level of interviewing that happened.
I feel sorry for them. I can't remember what website has them, but there is one that used to broadcast old shows 24/7 (tho a lot of repeats). Does anyone remember?
