The league is going away from the slow, big centers that can't make plays away from the basket. Nurk and Whiteside are dudes that are getting left behind in the era of Capella, Green and Davis. That being said, Whiteside is a dude I'd trade for if they would take back a Meyers & Harkless package. That's wishful thinking though.
Yeah, this is about the extent of what I'd be willing to give up for him. I'm pretty sure his knees are becoming an issue.
First of all, Olynyk was a restricted free agent who became unrestricted when Boston needed the money to sign Gordon Hayward. The Blazers didn't have cap space to sign someone like Olynyk last summer. It's not like he signed for the minimum or even the MLE. Second of all, the narrative that Olshey doesn't have the talent to make trades is just not true. You're mad that he won't trade CJ, I get it, but he has made all kinds of trades in his career including ones for a star player, quality starters, and undervalued role players. Nurk is a free agent this summer so trading him is almost impossible until January 15th next season.
Oh come on hoopsjock, it's very obvious that all it takes to acquire a player is to call the team that we want so and so and it's a done deal. It always amazes me from those that constantly complain about the GM think they have a better grasp of making a trade without ever knowing what the other team is willing to do.
No, I'm mad that since Aldridge left and his quickie patch job, his only meaningful trade has been when economics forced him to trade a starting center for a substitute one, an easy trade. A normal GM is self-motivated to make trades, including starters. This guy sits on his ass all year, self-contented, scouting colleges but not working the phones seeking trades.
How do you know that he supposedly doesn't make calls inquiring about trades? This is blockbuster news.
and that will never happen as they need cap relief as next year they will be at 144mil. For those bitching about Olshey need to take a look at Miami's situation with Pat Riley in control.
If I had any confidence that Olshey could flip Whiteside for a profit, I'd say, try it. But any player who arrives here stays, until economics forces Olshey to wake up and dump him, so, don't touch Whiteside with a 10-foot pole.
Objective history is the most solid evidence possible. What more do you want? Incriminating pictures?
I've said this before but this summer will be very telling. If once again he doesn't do much in terms of improving the roster then I will start to agree with you but he likely won't have a job at that point anyway. We know that he wants to keep the backcourt together. That doesn't make him lazy. You are certainly entitled to your opinion that he should split them up. However, the two of them make a good percentage of the cap so it makes other moves very difficult. He had a limited time to make moves with cap space and didn't do well that summer but we also don't know how much of that was Paul Allen telling him to keep the RFA's. It's not an excuse but most GM's had a bad summer that year too. It still doesn't make sense to me why a GM who up until that point was so meticulous about not taking on bad contracts or long term money would all of a sudden do just the opposite. That is why I truly believe it was mostly Allen telling him to do so and why he still has his job for now. Now after that summer didn't work he has to duck the tax line which he has succeeded in doing. Next year the tax line seems unavoidable so we'll see if he "sits on his ass" this summer.
What kind of logic decrees that since you don't hear of anything there's nothing going on behind the scene? It's some sort of logic I've never heard of. Of course, computer science, philosophy and electrical and computer engineering all have logic classes but nothing like that. You must be some kind of genius.
Miami's situation is bad, but they're not really at $144M. That includes Bosh's medical retirement which doesn't actually count against the cap/tax at this point. They'll be near $120M with 11 guys under contract. Trailblazers will be about $115M with 11 guys under contract. They're in almost the exact same spot as we are.
I wasn't aware that they finally got it approved, but even at that, they are still over 120mil with a lesser roster than us and Riley is suppose to be a genius. We should sign Bosn to a non guaranteed contract and play him in the preseason and a few games in the regular season and screw Miami over like Memphis did to us.
Maybe we can trade for him and dip in molten bronze and put him outside the Moda center, as a monument to that extinct species known as Centerus Traditionalis.
