Plus you factor in Whiteside's inconsistent motor and chemistry issues makes one take a long pause and go no. We have Nurk which fills a need already.

Instead of making offers to league stars like Whiteside, Olshey should scout for bargain equivalents, like Miami did with Olynyk.

    So just checking facts here:

Olynyk signed a 4 year, $50 million contract and averaged 11.5 points and 5.7 rebounds as a center.

Not a bad player but I wouldn't say "bargain" either. What am I missing?

You're not on the Pappagiannis bandwagon yet? The Blazers secret weapon and motivator for Nurk? Dude!

no thanks on Whiteside, too expensive and seems to be having issues in Miami, rather keep Nurk if he's reasonable, if not lots of C's out there this summer and not a big market for them

No thanks. I'm good with Nurk. Turner and Leonard for Whiteside I'm all for though.

We are going to have to take advantage of a bad situation to get the better end of a deal with someone.

That week was a good patch job, back in 1848. I expected him to flip them within a year for something more permanent, but he thinks those guys should stay here forever.

A starting center on a winning team who turned out to be as effective as the vaunted Hassan Whiteside isn't a bargain at 12.5 per year?

Ya fair deals we're not into. Only fleecing other teams is what we're into!

At this point that is what our situation requires if we want to make a big leap forward.

We'll get better by just being patient and adding a few smart pieces. Maybe we'll get good enough to compete before Lillard is used up, maybe not.

But if we're not interested in waiting on that gamble we'll need to take a player from somebody desperate. Like we did with Nurkic.

We're not deep enough to take a big step forward by making an even trade or two.

And really, if a team needs to get rid of a guy and we give them the best offer are we really fleecing them?

He started 22 games when Whiteside was hurt and no starts in the playoffs.

PER is a flawed stat but it was 24 to 17 in favor of Whiteside this year.

Olynyk is a decent player but lets not act like they signed an MVP to a vet minimum contract or something.

With Olynyk, Bam & Whiteside, one of them is going to be traded.
I think if we could acquire a legit vet 4 and bring AFA of the bench with Collins & Davis, it would balance things out way more.
One guy I like is T Harris from flippers.
    Someone like that....

Orlando discovered that despite stats, Olynyk is just about as effective as Whiteside. Regardless of who started 22 games last season, Olynyk will be the starting center once they dump Whiteside. Therefore, they found a bargain at 12.5.

Olshey should find underrated players instead of bidding high for known blue chippers. That's what Bob Whitsitt tried to do.

Guess things like this depend greatly on not only what the Blazers can actually do cap wise but also on if they can keep Nurkic. What happens if Nurkic gets an offer for way more than the Blazers are willing to pay?
They have Meyers making way too much. They have Turner making way too much. They already had to get rid of Crabbe and his contract. Not sure Nurkic is worth much more than about 10-12 million per year? But there is a chance he could get more than that.

Hmmm, Olshey's starting center that he personally acquired made less than $3 million this year. Now THAT is a bargain.

Nurk is absolutely worth more than that if that's what it takes. Hopefully not but the Blazers would be stupid to let him go.

    Jusuf Nurkic - 79 games
    Hassan Whiteside - 54 games

I'll take the Center who stayed healthy, over the Center who couldn't get healthy.

There is a chance he goes for 20 a year. Should they do it? Can they do it? Who do they lose?
