I'd lay good odds she'd get more out of our players than Stotts.

So many athletes look up to their moms for everything. Having a strong woman in charge would bring out the best in many.

Lillard raised by mom, moved her here to be with him. I'm telling you, the team that hires a strong woman as head coach will have a leg up

So is hiring a retread because that's what's always been done the way to go?

This actually makes some serious sense. Very good point MM. As was pointed out earlier, the status quo isn’t exactly paying dividends. Maybe it’s time to try a whole new approach.....

I don't recall ever saying that. Can you show me the post where I made that comment? Wasn't Alvin Gentry a retread? Wasn't Nate McMillan a retread? Mike D'Antoni a retread? There is no correct answer but in the case of Becky Hammon she has zero experience of being a head coach other than a handful of games in summer league. Inexperience and having to overcome the obstacle of being a female in a mans profession isn't an easy task and now isn't a time to experiment. A team at the bottom can maybe take a chance but I wouldn't with where the Blazers are at. If it fails it would be a waste of a couple years and could set us back.

Steve Kerr came from the booth
Phil Jackson, Erik Spolstra, Gregg Popovich all won titles with their first head coaching job.

Brad Stevens coached Butler until Danny Ainge signed him as Boston's head coach. Currently, there are some intriguing head coaches in the college ranks, such as Villanova's Jay Wright and Virginia's Tony Bennett.

So now you are equating Hammons with championship coaches?

Kerr took over a loaded team

Spoelstra was also an assistant for 11 years.

Popovich was an assistant for 5 years and took over a team with an injured David Robinson, tanked and got Duncan

Jackson took over a team that was in the ECF and had the GOAT and top 50 player of all time.

I would much rather go that route than take a chance on the first female head coach ever. Maybe Hammons will be good, but the Blazers aren;t in a position to take on that risk at this stage. If I were a Sacramento, Phoenix, Orlando, Memphis etc. then maybe.

For some reason you're mocking me. Did Gina spend 4 years as a pg in college? 14 years as a pro? 4 years learning under arguably the greatest coach in NBA hisyory?

These 2 antennas got married last week. The wedding wasn't that good, but the reception was magnificent

And let’s don't forget Pat Riley......straight out of the broadcast booth and handed a loaded team. Actually, he was the very first......but all that said, I think Hammond has at least as good of a chance at succeeding as any of the current college coaches that were named. Maybe more so based on her exposure to the pro game and the differences that entails. I just don’t see gender as being an indicator of success or failure.....

He went from being a touted college coach Boston College and at Providence to coaching the Celtics and failed .....I was saying great college coaches don't always succeed in the NBA...he was my example.
