The only two other teams that could be interested to me are the wizards and the hornets. Wizards could offer up enough expirings for Griffin. But they’d be in luxury tax like a bitch.

I just think Portland would be more motivated.

Do you think Detroit would be more motivated to let him play a year and see if his value increases so they can get more than just salary filler and a pick in a trade? They would essentially be selling as low as it comes, although with his contract I don’t know how much that can really improve. Just can’t get over the fact that Detroit would essentially have gotten Aminu/Turner and a pick swap in return for Harris and Bradley. Although the new GM has no reason to want to make that deal look any better.

I don’t see Blake’s value going higher because I don’t think his value is completely play based. That contract is rough. He’s 29 and getting paid like a franchise player. In Portland he could slide in and play the role he was always meant to play. That’s why I mentioned Washington as another possibility. Same scenario there. Just not sure they’d be as willing to add salary. I think Portland would for the right guy.

I hope your right. The encouraging thing is Neil probably feels the pressure more then he has his entire career and he’s shown that he loves “his guys”. Both of those things make me think if Griffin is shopped he would at least make an offer.

Yeah prior to the van gundy firing I didn’t really think there would be a non TPE trade out there that would improve our roster. If Detroit wants to dump Griffin, it’s an opportunity we have to jump on. It’s a way of improving the roster without breaking up the core. I don’t care about flexibility being limited in the future because I’ve just come to terms with the fact that we’ll never be players in free agency.

Blake might not be a franchise player, but he’d still be a massive upgrade and a great fit on the court. He’d provide spacing, we could even run the offense through him and he’d free up the entire offense. Nurk could also cover for him defensively similar to what Jordan did in LA.

Paul has said many times that he's willing to over spend if the team is a winning contender.

Melo for Griffin straight up might help both teams though. I guess it just comes down to how much Detroit values both getting rid of Griffin and picks. Indiana might be another sneaky team. They have the 23rd pick and as mentioned above have several contracts that are only partially guaranteed for next year.

I can see that, but I could also see the other side that he gets hurt again and no one wants to take on his contract anymore at his age and cost. It's a bit of a dilemma.

the Crabbe and Vonleh trades sure show that PA does care about paying tax. Those were negative deals with only one purpose. I don't think his concern will have lessened either, after Portland's 5-12 close to the season including that disaster in the 1st round. I mean, without changes, even in the most optimistic free agent scenario this summer, Portland could be 20M over the tax line; that's 45M in tax!

Well he could have wanted to stay under the tax after the team underperformed before the trade deadline the last two seasons to avoid starting the clock on the repeater tax.

If Paul was that worried about the tax then this current group would be blown up (and Nurk would’ve been traded at the deadline.) The likelihood of that happening though is small so if we’re going to keep this intact, we may as well go all out.

I would do the trade but this isn't the Trader Bob Blazers, they won't do anything fun like this.

And he's a PF, so Griffin naturally replaces him.

That being said, I don't think it makes us that much better. I dunno if I would do it.

If you get Griffin, where do you see Collins in 3 years? Trading for Griffin means going all-in on a Nurkic, Griffin, Lillard, and McCollum core as 4/5ths of the starting unit. Griffin would be untraceable for 4 years, and if his athleticism falls off with age, were screwed. And the best case scenario? Maybe a WCF, but I don't see that team being good enough to win a championship.

There literally isn’t a move out there to makes us good enough to win a championship. But I can’t think of many more realistic ones that gets us closer than trading for Griffin.

As for Zach. There are minutes available. I could even see a lineup with Zach at SF. It’s not like Harkless handles the ball that much better. Shit, Zach’s already a better passer. Defensively Zach can stay in front of most wings. And if teams go small we could also put Zach at center. There are plenty of ways to get him on the court for 20-25m.
