Better to take the gamble for greatness than the known of mediocrity... you don’t know for sure Kawai wouldn’t resign...
Exactly how many trades have the Spurs done in the last 15 years? Outside of the Leonard/Hill trade, its not like they've totally fleeced other teams or found gems in trades.
And you don't even know if Kawhi will play here. He could still be "injured" next year or he could tell the team in private that he won't stay. He'd be leaving SA. We'd have absolutely ZERO chance of keeping him.
Yeah, except that gamble has no potential of greatness. Swapping CJ, Collins, as picks for Leonard won't make us great, and then he'll leave for the Lakers, which would suck on multiple levels, and would essentially mean we'd have to trade Dame. We have a higher chance of being great by hoping Collins and Nurkic reach their full potential and by hitting on a couple 1st round picks.
I respect your opinion but I disagree... Dame, Kawai, Harkless, Nurk. Would be a top 5 team... and I think he would stay if they made a good run in playoffs
How? We still wouldn't make it to the WCF. Maybe we'd actually look like a 3rd seed, but he's not staying unless we reach the WCF, and we wouldn't beat Houston or Golden State in a 7 game series. So yeah, he'd leave.
You don’t think Dame and Nurk + finals MVP Kawai could compete without Rockets?! If adding a player of Kawai caliber doesn’t help you compete without Rockets and Warriors then you may as well trade Dame and blow it up
1.) No confidence in Terry 2.) Still have problems with a lack of solid role players 3.) Kawhi would struggle in an iso-ball role. 4.) CJ with a prime Nurk and Collins would be just as good as Kawhi with a developing Nurkic and a Sophomore Collins.
I just can’t see Collins and Nurk ever developing to their maximum potential as long as we keep Dame and CJ combo... not enough touches and plays run for them with Dame/CJ ISO ball
Once again you are assuming Kawhi is still that "Finals MVP" version. His camp is saying he has a real issue in his leg. He might not ever be the same again. You keep saying if they are good he would stay but HIS TEAM LAST YEAR HAD THE WARRIORS WITH DURANT DOWN OVER 20 POINTS IN THE WCF GAME 1 WHEN HE GOT HURT. If he's leaving SA it's because he wants something different than Portland can provide. If he leaves SA all of these are likely true: Winning=Not Super Important Contract=Not as Important as Market Size and Endorsements He can absolutely force where he wants to go despite not having an actual no-trade clause due to only having one year on his deal and simply saying he won't re-sign.
You obviously didn't read the article about him. His camp wants a bigger market. There is no assumption. If he leaves SA he is turning down a Super Max contract that ONLY SA can give him. He'd also be leaving an organization with a rich history of winning, one he has won a title with, and one that has been a perennial contender for two decades. But yeah sure, go ahead and think that one successful season in Portland could trump all that. What a joke.
Yes, please trade for a guy who quits on his team. A team that is seemingly ran with great respect around the league and usually always in contention. Again. yes please trade for this because Portland is the place that turns disgruntled players around.
Apparently they offered Aldridge enough to get him to take them over us. Not exactly a trade but they did fleece us.
