That's easy, staring at your cell phone is more disrespectful. But, this is America and one does have the freedom to express one's self in a myriad of ways.

My son’s HS football team decided as a TEAM that they would stay in the locker room during the anthem during the state playoffs last fall. Unity on they ass is what it was. We were on the road in Salem and all those white people booed our kids because of it. Very sad moment.

It's a major task for me to kneel so I reserve it for taking Communion and I was never tackled by anyone over 150 lbs. in my life. Not particularly interesting but I thought I'd through it out there.

If one person who lost a military family member?...

That person's family member chose to put their life at risk for their country. It's part of the job. I'd know, I basically lost my dad to it. He said he'd never get hurt, but it was his choice to do something risky, no matter how respectful it is...

Meanwhile, you have African-Americans choosing to drive home, trying to go about their day...

Why's it about taking away the voice of an oppressed minority just to make sure every family member of a lost military member feels comfortable and respected?

You realize how much attention their protests have gotten? It's been pretty damn effective at getting people to talk about their protest, and what their protest stands for, and that's what their aim is. You're seriously going to tell me it's more about ego???

Honest question, do you think Colin Kaepernik started it because of ego...?

The obvious solution is to play the national anthem twice, once where everyone stands, and once where everyone kneels.

Taking issue with a silent, peaceful protest that doesn't even inconvenience anyone is the pettiest shit I can think of.

It was not my choice to go into the military. It was also not my choice to go into combat. My greatest regret, and I have not regrets risking my life for my country, is that the military was extremely careless in taking care of me. The bottom line, I'm proud to have served.

I lost an Uncle due to a combat injury. He was in the Bataan Death March.

All 6 of my other Uncles as well as myself and my father and stepfather served in the Army while my brother served in the U.S.M.C. One uncle was in the paratroopers at Anzio during WWII and in Korea during the early 50s, one uncle was at Bataan and two uncles were in the paratroopers at Normandy. I guarantee that at least five of us would support the players taking a knee. I think I have a right to freely express myself (of course, we all do).

I'm a 32 year old white guy who leans to the right politically - I did not vote for Trump, so don't lump me in that pile...-
It bothers me a ton that people turned this into an issue about the military, or the flag, or any of that.
We should have open discussions about race, our communities, and police who abuse there power. It shouldn't offend anyone except the perpetrators of the problems we have as a nation.
Even if you disagree with some of the ideals, or things that they want to discuss, that is way more OK than turning it into an argument about patriotism and if they respect the military.

While I didn't like some of the things Colin K did (mostly related to castro), I think he did shine a light on how much there is still an issue in America that minorities feel like the color of their skin
determines the way they are treated, rather than the way they act. That is a problem, and it's a problem we should be talking about, and trying to fix, not boy-cotting the NFL or whomever because their employee's decided to talk about it.
I'm not saying just "fix" their feelings either, we need to snuff out racism, and I think we could all do a better job of trying to understand the perspective of others.
Talking about how much they hate America or whatever is just a way to deflect talking about the issues that we all face, as a society.

I was addressing the situation, not any specific post, Gronk, just to be clear. I think we agree on both points.
