NY does, but the Bucks have to have a pick in 2018 or 2019 so the pick we gave them would have to be unprotected for it to work.

BUT that pick could have been as high as #15 because it was only lottery protected.

The Leonard/24 trade wouldn’t really be about the tax, it would be more so about better use of the money they are spending. I mean if I’m Paul Allen I’d much rather pay tax on a Courtney Lee and a season of Faried than a Meyers Leonard for two seasons.

Hell no I wouldn't do that if I was Denver, but that doesn't mean they won't.

I just don't think any team is going to use up cap space before free agency for Leonard and #24. It's different for us because we don't have cap space. I think it would be more realistic to attach a 2019 pick at the deadline with him to a team that could absorb him. The tax doesn't matter until the final day of the regular season (which basically means the trade deadline) so we'd have until February to figure something out in terms of reducing the tax bill.

Coulda's really don't count as it was very obvious that Toronto was going to be one of the best in the east. Sure things can happen, but the odds were on Toronto's favor that it wouldn't be. In the case of Denver we know it is a lottery pick.

and if that's the case, you don't think they could package the two for a solid player of need rather than just getting some cap relief they would have at the end of the season anyway?

I agree with you, but FWIW, Faried has been a locker room distraction - he thinks he should be playing MUCH more than he is.

A rebuilding team with no motivation to be active in free agency would be best served using their cap space to gather cheap, long term assets, aka draft picks. The hawks and bulls are just two teams off the top of my head but I’m sure there are others. Leonard is perfect for these teams because his contract will also come off the books long before they’re expected to compete. He’s also young enough to where it doesn’t necessarily have to be a pure salary dump.

Unfortunately Billy King is no longer and likely never will be a GM again, lol. The Raptors deal was getting rid of Carroll and only giving up the 29th and 59th pick plus taking back a player owed 3 mil. I just don't see lottery picks being that easily obtained. I do realize that stupid trades do happen but I think we need to approach these deals in a more realistic scenario rather than a miracle type deal that has a high probability of not happening. I feel the same way when I see multiple players, picks and 3 or 4 teams involved type deals. History shows those type of deals are very difficult to put together as the more players and teams only creates a strong possibility of a deal falling through.

Cup, we are discussing a trade that was mentioned by the most trusted man in all of sports when it comes to information. It's not like we are just making this up.

No. It would’ve happened already. They’ve been trying to dump Faried.

Well the Hawks have picks 3, 19, 30, and 34 already plus Miles Plumlee on a bad contract plus they don't have the cap space to make a trade before the free agency period starts so I doubt they would be interested.

The Bulls have just enough cap space but they have picks 7 and 22 already and just acquired Asik so having another center with a bad contract isn't likely for them and they also would ruin part of their cap space this summer.

I still don't think NY says yes. They are moving down and giving up the best player.
