The truth is, HCP never met these guys. He knows who they are because he has their YouTube clips on repeat in the basement, while the Mrs. is upstairs with the door locked!
while this is true for every successful streamer, there’s hundreds of streamers with nothing to show for it. It’s much like any other walk of life.
True, I’m just saying. It’s been interesting to watch how gaming used to be looked at as a nerd thing and it’s become cool over the years especially now and with so much money being put into the esports scene and how much the top streamers make. The prehistoric thought is still “video games are for nerds, I don’t understand any of it”. The statistics and numbers are there. Some just refuse to look at them
I literally work in unity / unreal and code for a living and while I don’t currently use those systems for games it’s hard for me to judge what people outside of my frame of reference think about technology in general. I’ll say this the more time I spend on AI, neural nets, deep learning, etc the more even in my bubble kind of think there’s a lot of crap we can do with technology that maybe we shouldn’t, the problem is to stay competitive you feel almost forced to because if you don’t someone else will. Not to make this a conversation on ethics, but more or less saying some of that “fear” of technology I completely understand and I help develop some of it...
It’s also people refusing to take gaming seriously or as an art form where as movies are accepted openly as that. I can recall countless games with an art style that is amazing or a game with writing and scenes that are better than modern movies. Animation in games also gets better and better. It amazes me that people think they are so hip to 2018 and beyond yet can’t see what gaming does for people and how it will continue to evolve or esports and streamers. That whole world. It reminds me of skateboarding and how at one point skateboarders were looked at as the rebels and outcasts of the world. Tony hawk came around and changed that not only through his games but popularity and doing the 900. Fast forward to today, everybody is wearing some form of skate clothing brand or shoes without knowing it, pro skaters make tons of money through contests or sponsors. Nike sb and adidas skateboarding has taken the industry by storm. MTV certainly captitilized back when rob dyrdek was all over their network. It’s the same with games. So many play free mobile games. Not a fan of fortnite but it has definitely brought more recognition to the industry. It’s crazy
Zelda wind waker was an amazing game people wrote off because of the art style! I get what you’re saying. I played like 2-3 games of fort nite and pressed uninstall.
Whos the real Geek. The people who get paid to play video games. Or The guy in the truck who has to film it.
There are a lot of indie games I have played with an amazing art style most recently hollow knight and Celeste. There is something for everybody in gaming, I wish more were open to it to see the greatness in recent years whether you’re into art and smaller indie games or a bigger movie like game such as god of war. Shooters, strategy games, building sims, the list goes on. Unfortunately gamers and those that create them are still referred to as nerds by a large group of people still.
Ok so this is geeky, but my wife and I play RPGs, and we have a video game collection that’s like a mountain. A lot of which we haven’t played.
For what it’s worth when the stardew valley multiplayer dropped I played it with my girlfriend. She loves that game. I think it’s dope too. When it came out I didn’t even think I would like it, then I tried it and got hooked
Hey gang, we should make a Fallout 76 team when it comes out and build a compound to defend against Laker fans.
There's also a game coming out where you play as Darryl from the Walking Dead with a baby in a tube thing strapped to you.
Never got into RE, I’m annoyed with the direction they’re taking fallout, I think 76 looks lame. Nintendo’s direct this morning gave me some nostalgia trips. I can’t believe they delayed Kingdom Hearts 3 into next January, lots of games this fall though.
I haven't liked a RE since 5, and I'm only interested in Fallout if I can get some people to play with, it just seems like Rust. Nintendo didn't announce an Animal Crossing for Switch yet, so I'm not interested in picking one up yet.
