You can always tell a socialist.
But, you can't tell him much.

    O fucking T...

Bottom line: you agree with socialism too. Our Military is the most socialist entity on the planet.

I'm not sure that the government providing something that private citizens aren't capable of providing for themselves--ie, common defense of the republic--really qualifies as "socialism". :dunno:

No, just correcting an all too common misconception that we live in a democracy. We don't.

FWIW, I don't really disagree with you on how capitalism is abused. I just haven't yet seen a better alternative that works consistently and maintains freedoms any better.

You didn't need to correct something that wasn't even being discussed.... It was completely irrelevant.

And there are MANY alternatives that are working better than the US. Look at Sweden, Switzerland, and Iceland who JAILED their bankers and hand no ill effects from the "global economic downturn"... This is really OT...

Now, that one and done rule?

    It sucks.

A way to protect owners from themselves. I actually really struggle with this one. From a player's point of view, they should be able to get any contract they can when they finish high school, just like many other sports. But, this does place a lot of pressure on teams to take high cost bets early on to try and lock down the LeBron's and KDs of the world. You end up getting more misses than hits and that impacts the rest of the league. If I have to pick a side it would be on the free market and the only requirement would be that you can play ball (not even high school graduation, but must be at least 18) just like almost any other job.

All the free market conservatives should be against a one and done rule. Let the "free hand of the market" determine the results? No need for rules right? Shit can just regulate itself?

The one and done rule was created by a business organization that chose to self-regulate.

The Player's Union probably wouldn't go for it, but how about an amnesty clause for rookie contract, straight-from-HS players? That way, teams aren't stuck with gambles that don't pan out, and HS graduates have no age restriction. The teams would still waste the draft pick, but not much can be done about that.

Yeah, I like that. I'm not sure the Players Union would object. The younger kids get there money and their shot. If it doesn't work out the team is out the money, but isn't anchored to the contract via the cap. Probably favors bigger market teams with more money, but no worse than anything else.

You might be right, the Players Union is more interested in protecting the interests of their established players than the not-yet-rookies.
