I'm hearing rumors that Canadians are going to start smuggling octopi into America and have them wear 4 pairs of shoes back to Canada. When will this madness end?
My wife, before we met lived in Lynden Washington which was basically on the border. Small town but they actually built a Jafco (young ones probably have no idea what a Jafco is) and the Canadians would drive down on the weekend, buy massive amounts of luggage and then fill all their suitcases with merchandise and declare it as clothes in their luggage and not have to pay duty on the items. Similar to what Washington residents in Vancouver and nearby come into Oregon and buy merchandise with no sales tax.
My Canadian cousins have been doing this for at least 60+ years, as has about 1/3 of all Vancouver, BC area residents. Similarly, my friends in the Vancouver, Wa area do their shopping in Portland. You'd have to be stupid not to.

Half of my last girlfriend's family was Canadian. Her sister had duel citizenship until some time around 14 years old (maybe it was 16) when she had to choose between American (like her mom) or Canadian (llike her Dad) citizenship. My girlfriend and her brother chose American. Now, she was a sweetie and I did love her.
