I think we have seeen what we are capable of with this backcourt, CJ is the more sure thing right now but if we took a gamble on that trade and Fultz turns out to be what everyone thought he’d be and we snagged Covington it would be robbery.

We don’t know that yet, Fultz didnt have a “mentality” problem until he was in the NBA, who knows how Simons will react to the same pressure? Actually we will never know because Fultz went number 1 overall and obviously had a lot more pressure on him than Simons will but we still have no clue how Simons is gonna translate mentally to the NBA.

I'm not against trading CJ for the right package. I do really like CJ's game, but understand you have to part with players sometimes to get better. Fultz is not that player, in my eyes. Difference in opinion. It's all good. I don't get a good vibe from Fultz though.

    Covington?

You don't trade CJ to Philly without Saric in the package.

LeBron is a free agent, they don’t need to give up anything to bring him. Actuallly getting Kawhi would be part of the pitch to LeBron, you would definitely have him more interested if he knew he was going to play with Simmons, Embiid and Kawhi than with the first two alone. Also it means that Lakers won’t get him which weakens their pitch.

Ingram/Kuzma/Randle for Kawhi is a damn good deal for the Spurs. I hope LA does that and then strikes out on Bron.

That is an amazing deal for San Antonio. Don’t know what your definition of average is.

Average? Randle is a solid starter. Kuzma projects to be just underneath all star level, and I think a 20 yr old Ingram is one of the best young prospects in the league.

Yeah all three are lottery type talents. That would be a great get considering where the spurs are leverage wise.

The problem in my opinion is it’s a stars league, all three of those guys are much easier to find than a player like Kawhi. Kawhi was considered in the top 2-3 two way players in the NBA, he has become superstar. It’s extremely hard to replace what a superstar does for your team.
If I was San Antonio I’d be talking to Boston or Philly before I sent him to the Lakers, not just because they are in a different conference but they have more attractive assets at least in my opinion.

Agreed. The team getting the best player in a trade always wins. The wildcard here is Kawhi's physical and mental health. It's hard to shake the feeling that future Kawhi is going to be like Brandon Roy after his big contract.

Sometimes, though, the perception of who the "best player" is is flawed. For instance, it was assumed OKC was getting the "best player" in the Paul George deal, but now it seems that Indiana did. While Kawhi might be the best player now, it's possible that Ingram is actually better long-term.

Even if we don’t have a chance, It would be nice to hear that Blazers are one of the teams making offer for Kawai... I just can’t stomach the thought of bringing back essentially the same roster with not even trying to make change...

KAWHI (I always have to look it up) has made it clear he wants to go to LA. SA doesn't want to send him to a western conference team (which makes me believe his injury can't be too much of a concern), but may be forced to if Kawhi insists he won't resign with an eastern team. Portland doesn't fit into any of that. It may make you feel better that NO is trying, but the reality is it isn't going to happen.

I agree with you about the not wanting the same roster. The only saving grace I see with this roster (unchaged) would be if Nurk lives with the QA and beasts out over the next year and/or one of the new guys makes CJ expendable so they do a mid-season trade so we can be ready to run for the 2019-2020 season.

I heard that Portland has been in contact with Pop, but Pop is leery of trading him to Portland. He thinks it may put the Blazers over the top.....at least better than the Spurs. He is looking at offers out east first.

    Feel better? :smiley-laughing:

I heard Pop contacted Portland because he felt bad about how LaMarsha left without the Blazers getting anything.....and wishes LA had stayed in Portland.

What would it even take from Portland's side? CJ + Aminu + future first? And then we lose him to the L@kers after that? Too much risk for me.
