Now that the draft is over...

What do you think Philly would give up to completely clear Bayless off of their books? How desperate are they?

Enough to give up the Miami 2021 unprotected 1st?

It helps them out a great deal right now and helps us out in the future (or to use in trades this summer).

The TPE is our best tool to improve this year. Getting Bayless and the 2021 draft (regardless of its value) does nothing to help our roster now. Dame won't be happy.

Oh, so being able to offer a Miami 2021 unprotected 1st in trade packages doesn't help us?

    Yeah, okay.

Not now (as I said in the post). Not this season.

You really going to sell Dame on using our one tool to improve the roster on Jerryd Bayless and a pick that will be made after his contract expires? Switch that to Covington and he's on board.

Seriously, what part of using that pick in a trade for a good player aren't you grasping?

76ers aren't going to give up Covington like that.

    Such as?

Why would Philly trade it to us if it has so much value?

Right now Philly can get to about $26 million in cap space. Trading Bayless for nothing gets them to about $35 million or in simpler terms enough to sign LeBron (or someone else) to a max contract. That is absolutely a consideration for them.

How about a 3-way trade where we get Middleton, the Bucks get Kemba Walker, and the Hornets get that 2021 1st rounder and some other stuff to help them start their rebuild?

I obviously get the value of a pick, you can spare the snark.

But Neil has repeatedly said that he will try to obtain a veteran wing. And considering how hands-on Dame has been this summer, and how many times he has repeatedly said he wants help, getting a useless guard and a pick that will be made a year after Dame's contract expires is not much of a selling point for Dame to get confidence. I get that you can move the pick. Try selling that to Dame. We're in a state now where his mindset needs to be a priority. With all these stars getting disenchanted with their franchises a yr before their contracts are up, teams need to cater to them to keep them -- no matter how irrational it seems. Neil is on the clock now.

I am going to continue with the snark until you comprehend my posts instead of keep going back to the same point which I have said 3 times now that isn't the point of getting the pick.

If we are trying to get a star for Dame, what has more value? A TPE that can only be used for someone making less than $13 million and can't be combined with any other players or an unprotected future pick from a team (Heat) that doesn't seem to have much of a long term future and can be combined with any players or contracts to make a deal work?

It would probably be easier to get Covington in the right deal. Can you trade the TPE and a future pick to take back Covington?

Yes, doubt the 76ers really want more picks though.

Covington would be likely the best wing potentially available to help right now. It seems like he might be available. So, how do you get him using the TPE--what would Philly want that we have that is reasonable?

I get that. The optics won't look good for Dame unless we immediately swing a trade withthat pick. Do you disagree?

Having extra picks can't hurt having for future trades.

Why is he available? He's on a great contract and fits with any style (even though I think he's overrated)
