If you watch the replay, the ball actually hit the ground about 2 feet in front of the right fielder. He could have easily caught it, but he saw Shaddy going balls to the wall, heard him call for it and slowed up. I can't figure out how to embed this video, but of you click on this link, it has a pretty good angle on the play: http://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=23930843 I was always very aggressive when I played the outfield, any ball I could get to without sliding was mine and I made sure the other fielders knew it. I had a good arm and loved to throw base runners out. Nothing like a running start to get a little extra mustard on the throw. Plus, it's always easier to pick up the ball when it's in front of you than when it's coming over your shoulder. BNM
Any word on who's starting on the mound tonight? I'm assuming it will be Abel, but haven't heard anything official. BNM
It was in a tough spot and I watched the replay several times before I commented above and felt it was questionable for the right fielder. If you notice in the replay the 2nd baseman glances down at the ground when he reaches the foul line for some reason and then continues sprinting to the area where the ball was. I think that glance might have caused him to lose the ball and thus the reason he ran past the ball. All I can say is, I'm glad they didn't make the play.
...Arkansas still looks a bit dejected from last night and now I'm not sure they can prevent Pat Casey's destiny of winning his 900th game and another championship at the same time!
So yesterday when Arkansas was the only one who could win the championship it's on the ESPN, tonight when the Beavers could win the championship ESPN has it on The Ocho.
I would be interested in some kind of documentary on how OSU became a baseball powerhouse. I think it would be interesting.
Freakin awesome 5 innings so far! OSU baseball is as good as it gets....this series is way better than the NBA finals were
Kevin Abel on his way to becoming the first pitcher in college series history to go 4-0 in a finals series....26 strike outs ...retired 11 in a row and 6 shutout innings after pitching last night...the kid is amazing
Arkansas REALLY didn't want to see this go to 3 games. They can't come close to matching the depth pf OSU's pitching staff. Van Horn shot his load in the first two games, and it almost worked. You could tell Cronin was struggling even before the Larnach HR. Even before he started losing velocity on his fastball, he was missing his spots. And when they didn't win it in 2 they had no one left for Game 3. Their third starter has a losing record. Oregon State's third starter is 7-1 and is dominating them tonight. BNM
