I think you are correct as I just found this: His salary for 2018/19 is not guaranteed, HoopsHype has learned. Full guarantee if still with the team after June 30, 2018.
He can play on our SL roster even if we don't pick up his option. http://www.nba.com/blazers/forwardcenter/trail-blazers-summer-league-roster-starts-take-shape
I predicted Bazz and Pat would be gone and they'd keep Layman....I think it's why he's in the gym during every workout video all summer....Layman, Biggie, Zach, Baldwin all have been working out together...I expect them all back...Layman has great fundamental skills, is strong and hopefully gets his shot confidence where it needs to be although....he's a 3rd stringer anyway
I hope not. Layman hasn't shown anything in the game time he's received to even warrant the #15 spot on the roster. Even as a 'developing prospect' his best case scenario is a very poor man's Barton. If much rather have Pat on a vet min contract
Layman is way bigger than Pat...and his lower core is strong ...his shooting form is textbook...he just needs to make the leap ...for a big like him the 3rd season is usually when they get it....his defense is decent...as a project I think he's worth another 15th spot unless we need the spot for a proven vet. We don't know what these guys do improvement wise outside of NBA games...he hasn't played much in those..we need cheap contracts
When they write the 800-page biography "The Olshey Story" a 50-page chapter will be devoted to Layman, and another to Connaughton. Olshey's whole life is a series of lazily keeping players far beyond their useful lives.
Last I heard about Cliff Alexander he was playing in Israel or someplace...he didn't exactly light up the NBA...sort of like Craig "The Rhino" Smith....another guy who will be a tough trivia pursuit sports question....
3rd stringers are what they are....3rd stringers...guys who play when you're up 40 pts or down 40 pts in the 4th qtr..think of Layman as company for Meyers at the end of the pine
Another Olshey waste of a year. Speaking of passing the time, I'll give the Alexander chapter 20 pages. A real page-turner for the bored reader.
Yes - however those 3rd stringers should have some future potential or have some quality veteran leadership. Simons, Trent, & PapaG are young & have 'potential' Layman & Meyers are neither of those things. We can upgrade from Layman. Meyers were just stuck with
This I'm not sure about....looks like the team sees something we don't get to see about Layman...I'll bet he's back and we're young period..I expect 2 vets to get roster spots before the season ..probably bench players...2nd string needs the upgrade...3rd string is practice squad
