I remember Dame saying he wanted to play his whole career with Ed. Don't usually care about these relationships in the league, but for that price, Neil could have obliged here. They better have a plan
Yeah we’ll see, but logic says you don’t just let a relatively affordable, important piece like that go unless you have something else lined up. Just guessing here, but I think Portland has placed an emphasis on shooting this offseason. While I loved and appreciated what Davis brought, he was pretty limited.
Ed fit the culture, did everything asked of him. From everything I ever gathered he was a great teammate. I seriously just don’t get it. If he did in fact want to come back they should’ve been able to keep him at that price.
You don’t need everyone on your team to shoot you do have to rebound the ball, and play a little bit of defense...
Ed was a good help defender, but not much of a one on one guy, especially against traditional centers. We will miss him most on the offensive boards, but once again it’s hard to talk about these things when we don’t even know what the plan is.
I have yet to see or hear anything from Olshey that make me think that he's ever had a formal plan that extends more than 3 months in the future. He sure tries to sell everyone on that there's a 'plan' - but I don't buy it
Hope not. Will just find some inconsistent shooter(s) who are good one game and garbage the next. After Dame and CJ, Davis was honestly our third most consistent player. Could count on him to grab boards, play good defense and he got a lot of and 1s on the offensive end as well. While someone like Nurk has the obvious more potential, he was madly inconsistent and consistent players are things you need in order to do well.
So we lost Bazz, Pat, Ed and Nurk is still questionnable and replace them with Simons and Trent Jr.... nice move Neil.
My question is did they tell him they were not interested? or were they waiting to see if they could get a a FA first. It seems by Ed's text to Quick that he did not feel like waiting. Ed seems to feel a little disrespected. I think this might have taken Neil by surprise and Ed was making a point by taking the first offer. He can't sign it yet, so technically we could still make an offer.
PA directive to Olshey at the end of the season was to 'get better'. So far, he hasn't done anything to make the team better
I'm pretty sure that NO told Ed during the exit interviews that they weren't going to bring him back. If not, there was plenty of time over the last 3 months for them to talk. There's no way this took Olshey by suprise
If that were true then Dame should not have been surprised. He would have already known he was not coming back. Ed would have told him.
Man how times have changed. In the 2017 offseason most of you would've loved to see Davis off the team. Fast forward one year and Davis is being touted as a fan favorite.
