No, unfortunately. Same restriction applies. You cant sign and trade and finish over the "apron"

    Well. Shit.

Those contracts are leaving us with no flexibility whatsoever. Not to mention the $5 mil in dead space we have because they didn't want to pay tax for one year and instead stretched the deals to fuck us over for three straight years. People wondered why we bitched about all this so much back then. You see the consequences now.

If Nurk takes the QO, then the Blazers would have about $17M in apron room and maybe you could work a S&T deal. Not holding my breath.

Neil won't get a single job offer once other teams realize how completely he mis-managed this payroll and roster (and more importantly, Dame's prime). Yes, I think us firing him is a foregone conclusion.

Portland stretched a few contracts when they were well below the tax instead of just taking the hit in one year (sideshow Andy). We're still paying for that too.

That’s just not true. Gigalo, valet parking, Amway... his options are wide open.

What if we included someone in the deal? Like an Aminu

Sure. You couldn’t use the TPE if you did that though. You can do sign and trades as long as the deal doesn’t put you over the apron.

You absolutely could use the TPE while sending out Aminu. On our side it would look like two separate deals--Randle into the TPE, and Aminu for nothing (generating a new, Aminu-sized TPE), whereas the Lakers would simply show it as Aminu-in-Randle-out.

True, as long as Randle’s salary would match close enough to the TPE.

    IF Nurk took the QO...

We'd have about $6-$9 million to work with under the apron and would possibly be under the luxury tax. So using the TPE to do a sign and trade is still unrealistic because we'd be better off just finding a way to shed a tiny bit of salary and use the MLE which in essence would be the same thing.

If Nurk signs the QO or signs for about $10 million the first year...

If we did a sign and trade it would have to have equal money going out to the other team or more than coming in. So if Aminu was our bait we couldn't take back more than $6.8 million or whatever. If Turner was part of the trade we could take back $17.7 million, the problem is finding someone who would take Turner. The TPE, MLE, and any other method of signing players would all go away and we'd be unable to make any transactions until July 1st, 2019 unless it was a trade with less money coming in.

The problem is some of the guys who fit for this type of sign and trade like Randle and Parker are on teams needing to cut payroll, not add to it so it's unlikely they would want to take back anything in return. My scenario in the TPE thread would be the only way and that seems pretty far fetched.

In theory yes this is possible (only if Nurk signed the QO first). The math is almost perfect. However the Lakers are now over the cap. They can still create a huge chunk of cap space by renouncing Randle and stretching Deng but they lose a portion of that if they bring in Aminu so I think that it's still not worth getting anyone's hopes up that it could happen.

If we wanted Randle the better play would have been to trade for him at the deadline to have his bird rights.

Where are you getting the $6-9 M of room below the apron? According to the Shamsports calculator, now that Pat and Bazz are off the books, the Blazers have about $13 M in apron room. If Nurk takes the QO, the room climbs to around $17M.

Sure, but that's in the past. We're talking about now. Aside from signing Lebron, Lakers have been using their cap space on one-year deals, playing for cap space next summer. Trading for an expiring like Aminu meshes well with that strategy.

    ?

It says about 6.4 for apron with Nurk QO and signing Simons to rookie scale and Trent to minimum.
