I'm including PapaG and Baldwin (that accounts for the 6-9 fluctuation if you cut those two), Nurk on the QO, Stauskas signing, Layman guaranteed, cap hold on Simons, and cap hold on Trent for the minimum. I include Trent because if we do a sign and trade and get hard capped we couldn't sign him if we don't account for that money in projections.

I don't have the exact number on me at the moment but it was around $122 million including all that.

We had to overpay ET to even come here, I doubt we would be players for any major pieces even with the money. Trades and Draft, only way we will win a championship.

We'd be a helluva lot more active in the trade market

I mentioned the past because I don't think Olshey's that into Randle. Parker on the other hand might be different.

While Aminu is a fit contract wise, if we are assuming they are done with cap space this summer (which I don't think they are quite yet), there are three things that are still hurdles.

    1) Randle would have to agree to sign here and for what we are offering.

    2) The Lakers would have to want Aminu over offers from other teams that could also offer Randle. For example a Jeremy Lin or Demarre Carroll on the Nets (not saying they're better than Aminu, just the first team that popped in my head) or Kemba Walker or whomever.

    3) The Lakers could also just sign Randle to a one year deal instead of agreeing to trade him for a lesser player.

I'd be down with that one too.

Did you honestly think any of that needed to be explained? If this is all about "not getting people's hopes up that it could happen", don't be such a wet blanket. Sometimes people want to get their hopes up.

Lol, I’m so defeated in terms of the NBA at this point. Not that anything this summer was unexpected, but it seems so pointless to spend time / money on the NBA product at this point. My team is basically not going anywhere, along with about 20 others. 2/3rds of the league is just hanging around to give the good teams someone to warm up against.
    The officiating drives me crazy.
Basketball is an awesome sport, but I’m kind of fed up with the NBA. Yup I’m in a good mood lol.

Found my mistake. I thought they including the cap holds in the $13M in apron room it shows on the initial screen and I was doing mental math from there. In actuality, the cap holds don't get calculated until you say what you're doing with the player. Rookie mistake.

I know you personally don't need the explanation, but people were asking questions about the sign and trade situation and I want to make sure they have all the facts. I'll tell them again in a few days when the same people ask the same questions, ha ha.

Feelings aren't right or wrong, there just feelings!
I think the league will do something to bring about a bit more parity.
For the most part its always been, just a handful of teams contend, however, now with super teams being built there may be even fewer than a handful of teams competing.
Going to be a real interesting off season in the NBA.

Wrong. We didn't HAVE to. We just did. Even he said as much.

So we don’t have to overpay FA to come here? Yeah ok. Name the last time we landed a big name fa, or even a starter through free agency we didn’t over pay to get.

I think what he is saying is that Blazers could (and should) have told Turner to go pound sand. He isn't a good enough player that any team should feel the need to over-pay for his services. NO let himself be blackmailed by a grade C journeyman that the team could easily have lived without.

This is a point that often gets lost in the conversation. Cap space isn't just about free agents. It also gives the team greater flexibility in the trade market.

I can't get the car dealership metaphor out of my head. I don't need the effing car. If the price isn't right, just walk away. Save my $$$ for a different car. Neil didn't do that, and ET was totally surprised at how much his agent was able to get him. I do understand why, but shit.
