    Wow.

The Warriors are really competing for that "Most Assholes On A Team" award, aren't they?

There is no competition. They win that award easily.

You sign with the Lakers now it's like playing with Kobe.....Lebron dominates everything...neither tend to make their teammates look better...both are amazing scorers. Lot of elite players don't want to play in that shadow.

Depends on your definition of better. I agree ratings will likely go up in the short term.

Optimists love to point out that he's injured, but he will rest until ~January-Feb and if he's 80% good as he was the Warriors can extend him for all the cash they want. They don't seem to care about tax\penalties.

I think it's time to give up on the NBA.
GS\Rockets\Lakers at the top...#boycottTheNba is trending on twitter , no reason to watch when there's no suspense.

Everyone said OKC would finish ahead of us last year. Definite Top 3, people said, and we swept them and won the division. The games must be played.

How much does it matter, really?
I imagine they could still offer him a pretty good contract, i dont think he'll get any supermax offers elsewhere anyway.

Anyone not think the NBA is broken? You're fooling yourself otherwise.

    Fixed for logic.

LeBron trusts his teammates in a way Kobe never did. Watch Game 7 of the 2018 ECFs. LeBron's teammates were missing everything but he trusted them and they came through in the second half. Kobe never would've kept passing the ball to players like JR Smith and Jeff Green.

How can they offer him a "pretty good contract" and keep Dray and Klay?

The most they'll be able to offer him after this season will be a deal starting at 6.36M (120% of 5.3M). Any team with the full MLE will be able to offer more.

hmm i must be out of touch in regards to extension rules.
Why can't they offer more than 120% of what he's making now? because they blew their cap? or is because of something else?

CBA FAQ #25 spells it out.

On a one-year deal with a new team, that team doesn't receive bird-rights, just a non-bird exception, which is 120% of the player's prior year salary.

After a two-year deal with a new team, the team can get an early-bird exception, which is for up to 175% of the player's prior year salary or 105% of the prior-year league average salary (whichever is greater).

For full bird rights, a player has to go 3 years without changing teams in free agency.

    Thanks.
It makes no sense though, what if a player signs a cheap contract, blasts everyone away and his value is MUCH higher? He can't get paid by his worth? didnt Hassan Whiteside get like 25M after playing with the Heat for a season and half? he earned like nothing on his first contract with the Heat.

Oddly enough, that's precisely what one poster is kvetching about over in the Seth Curry thread--that if he returns to his 16-17 form, we won't be able to keep him beyond one year. But it's intended to keep teams from circumventing cap rules by convincing players to sign vastly below-market deals for one year just to get bird rights, and then signing them to a huge deal the next year.

That's actually what CBA FAQ #33 talks about, how the Blazers did precisely that with Chris Dudley back in 93-94, and why they updated the CBA to require 3 years before full bird rights are earned.
