The super Melo to Portland thread + The Big Blockbuster

Dumping Melo is the definition of addition by subtraction.

And going from Felton to Schroder doesn’t need further analysis.

 

Felton was good for him. As was said, their guards can't shoot and we've added shooting. We're still better than them. We have All NBA First Team guard. They don't. And PG13 is overrated.

 

I know it's true (not Staukas though) to a degree. But I see it as this: every single move other GMs make, reminds Blazer fans of the inactivity of their own GM. And each reminder builds more and more discord...(and at times a bit of irrationality).

For me, it's the entire picture--from the beginning until now. The shifting target stuff, the changing catch phrases and the ones that don't change, etc. It's insulting and tiresome. And then to have people tell you it's all part of the master plan. That's what's laughable. Olshey simply cannot do what he says he's going to do. Therefore, people freak. And they probably should.

 

Not so sure about that. Schroeder is a HORRIBLE defender, a TERRIBLE 3-point shooter and a very high usage rate player. At least he will let OKC continue to play the same style when Westbrick goes to the bench.

Seriously, they now have two 30+ USG% players who shoot < .300 3FG%, both of whom will be taking shots away from the MUCH more efficient Paul George. To me, as a Blazers fan, this is a good thing.

Poor Paul George, he resigns with OKC and they bring in a second ball hog who thinks he deserves all the shots.

How? We swept them. Shroeder and Noel suddenly flip three of those games? Felton is better shooter than Schroeder. They've gotten worse.

We are a lock for playoffs. We spent the last month of the season at 3 seed. It's not like we were bouncing around the standings. We will be very good this year. Great? Who knows? But very good, yes.

 

So, doesn't this trade create the same kind of logjam at guard for OKC that people are bitching about POR having? They resigned Felton, already have Westbrook sucking up over 36 MPG and 21 FGA/G at the point guard spot and have now added Schroeder..

How does adding a shitty defender with a > 30% USG% and a < .300 3FG% make them better? Seriously, explain that one to me.

At least our so-called logjam at guard consists of people who can actually shoot the ball. We have a surplus of guys who can shoot. OKC has a surplus of guys who can't.

No, he's not. He's being held back by Westbrick. I'd love to have him on our roster (and I suspect you would, too).

A lock??? I think that’s kind of crazy, but they have a very good shot at making it. The West is tough, for a lot of last season the Blazers were barely hanging on to the 8 seed. Not dogging Portland it’s just tough and the margin for error is not very high.

 

Id say he is a top 10 2 way, not top 5, but two ways are hard to find. He would propelle us big time.

 

Not really. And in March, which was supposed to be a tough month for us, we dominated and ran away with the three seed. And it's because we have a very talented roster and a very good coach. If Harkless didn't get hurt, I think we would've won 52-53 games and made it to second round pushing Warriors to about 6 games. But Harkless' injury killed our momentum. Our defense was so good with him and he was hitting threes at an unbelievable clip. When he came back at less than 100%, we never got our groove back.

 

I don’t know what I make of PG13, I wouldn’t say he’s over rated, heck I’d love it if he were a Blazer!
I thought the pacers would be worse without him and I thought OKC would be better with him, now Melo being in OKC too didn’t help...
I think PG13 is like one of those top 15-20ish players, and very good on both sides of the ball.

 

I've never been, a huge proponent of trading C.J., but Paul George and Jimmy Butler are two of the few players who have been realistically available I'd trade C.J. (and a young player and picks) for in a heartbeat. Either one of those guys, paired with Dame and Nurk, would give us a legit Big 3. Our defense would be so much better (easily one of the top in the league) and we wouldn't sacrifice anything offensively.

Yes really up through mid-January the Blazers basically a .500 ball club.

 

I mean.... I don't think I was bitching about it..... just discussing it as an issue.

 

He is the kind of 3 and D guys GMs have wet dreams about. He's always among the league leaders in steals, has made all defense multiple times and can shoot > .400 3FG%.

He's also one of the few players in the league you can stick on LeBron or Durant and not worry about getting totally abused.
