Listen, if Paul didn't think he had the balls, he wouldn't be here. He and the Vulcans can asses weather someone has what it takes probably as good or better than any org in the league. To be a GM in this league you have balls. I think its more he wants a certain player if he trades either CJ or Dame (trading Dame requires balls) but I believe he'd do it for the right deal. Everyone is tradable, and it cant be a lop sided deal. CJ's & Dames value is only going up so be patient and see what happens this year.
Sorry man, I wasn't trying to be argumentative at all. I shouldn't have started my sentence with "listen".
It's cool. I've already whiffed twice today with heavy sarcasm haha. I just didn't want you to think I seriously thought that.
There's a huge difference between willing to trade CJ and including Dame. I don't belive that Dame would have had to be included. That's a false narrative... CJ + Collins + pick is about equal to what Spurs got. Neil Olshey apparently wasn't willing to even offer that to legitimately get us I to the discussion. That's the issue I'm having with NO. He says he is going to be agressive to improve the team, but all the reports say he's trying to low-ball everyone with offers that have no chance of being accepted
You're leaving out one very important point, Pop specifically said he was not trading Kawhi to a Western Conference team. Matching TOR's offer with C.J., Collins and a 1st would not have been enough. To get Pop to change his mind, our offer would have had to trump TOR's offer and the only trump card in Neil's hand was Damian Lillard. Plus, you have no idea what Neil offered. He very well could have offered C.J. + Collins, but he's not going to come out and say, we tried to trade C.J., but SAS preferred TOR's offer. BNM
Well, by that token.... we traded the early-90’s Blazers for the Jail Blazers for the lotto-era teams for LMA’s Blazers for the current Blazers. And we still have nothing to show for it....
Really? Is the fact that Pops said he wasn't going to trade Kawhi to a Western Conference team also a false narrative? About equal (I still maintain DeRozan is a slightly better player, but the margin is small). It would have had to be measurably better to get Pop to even consider trading Kawhi to a Western Conference. In the end, Pop got EXACTLY what he said he wanted. Short of relocating the team to Portland, Maine, we could not have met all of his stated demands. In which case "about equal" is the true false narrative here. Yes, "apparently" Neil wasn't going to admit he tried to trade our second best player. No one knows what Neil offered, and he'd be a fool to tell the media. BNM
I don't think Paul Allen would have been OK with offering that that for a player we may never get to play for us. Also, I'm not sure the Spurs would have accepted an equivalent offer from a Western Conference team. In fact, I think it very possibly could have taken Dame to convince the Spurs to send him to us rather than Toronto.
It was certainly reported that Pop made that clear. http://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/spurs-will-not-trade-kawhi-leonard-western-conference/449859 Considering that Kawhi went to an Eastern Conference team why would we assume that's false?
Chris Sheridan is the source? Really? Pop isn't that petty, nor should he be scared of Kawhi torching his team. If a team from the west made a similar offer, I'm sure he'd pick the best offer for his team.
It's no secret that Pop doesn't like to send talent to the Western Conference. I mean, you can argue it all day long, but it's nothing new. He has made it very clear in the past. https://www.ocregister.com/2018/04/...rd-is-available-just-maybe-not-to-the-lakers/
It wasn't just Chris Sheridan: https://247sports.com/nba/san-anton...awhi-Leonard-to-Eastern-Conference-119300982/
Because it doesn't fit the forum narrative that Neil is a do nothing slacker who refuses to trade "his guys". BNM
He did pick the best offer. One that got him everything he said he wanted. Other than offering up Dame, what could he have done to BEAT (not match) TOR's offer? BNM
Thing is, SA doesn't make many trades in general, soI dunno how we can see it is clear he doesn't send talent west. They don't send it anywhere. You have this trade, then their most recent one was 2 years ago, sending Diaw to the Jazz(west). Working backwards...Splitter to the Hawks(east), TJ Ford, Richard Jefferson and a pick for Stephen Jackson, GS(west), George Hill to the Pacers. And that has us going back 7 years! They just don't make trades. But out of the ones they have made in the last 7 years, it's not like there's a clear east coast bias.
Agreed, but let's clarify that it's only a portion of the forum (albeit a vocal one) that holds that view.
