I was going to say MarAzul is a day behind the schedule given above, but that would not be quite correct.
We are in Charleston harbor this evening, right in sync with the weather. It is just a day later on the calendar.
Thankfully I do not need to keep calendar schedule.

The MarAzul finally made it to the Columbia, entering the river through heavy fog, up the river as far as Warrenton.

Currently berthed in the beautiful little harbor of Cathlamet Wa. Probably for at least a month while the skipper deals with the VA. Cathlamet is kind a neat, up stream far enough to get out of the cold but not the heat of the Willamette valley.

If you guys are interested in a great book about the early Columbia Bar Pilots, read "Roll on Columbia".
I am from a family of CR Pilots and Tug pilots.
MarAzul be safe crossing that bar!

    Back in Bandon!

A bus ride from Scappoose to SW 6th and Salmon. Never mind the 3 and half mile hike into Scappoose to catch the bus, and the Amtrack to Eugene, the distressful part of the journey was the hike down SW 6th Ave to the train station. Lord amity, Portland is a disgusting place! How in the hell did this happen over the last 50 years. Damn! What a tragedy! A vibrant city allowed to become a shit hole with Max and no riders running smack down the middle. Derelicts and riff raft decorating both wings most of the way.

People using needles to shoot up shit right on the sidewalk, with blanket spread and pillow ready to go to la la land right there.
Who votes for this shit? The buses uses to come into town and the end of the run was near Transportation hubs like the Train Station, and two bus terminals. No more! The driver of the bus I was on, said no one want to go to that end of town anymore. I suppose he might be right, but the train station is there! Bus terminal no.
Perhaps because no one would go there? It is a shit hole though.

There is a thing called Max that would have taken you right to within a block of Union Station. Learn the city then post.

Naw! I like to walk. It was sort of a sight I suppose. This ancient old white man walking fast and straight right down the middle, It was like the sea, parting before the bow of the MarAzul, making way for the old man hiking down the street. How your day today Sir?, Got a cigarette? One Black gal was sort of my escort a good part of the way, well the last half I suppose. She started with catching up to me walking fast. She said, you ready for me? I keep walking with just a slight negative
turn of the head. She then proceeded to lead me, out in front about 30 feet. She then shouted to any the would listen, this fucker is following me!

Ha! I passed her on one corner while some talked with her. I heard one guy say, it doesn't look like he's following you!

She caught up, and started the act again. Even she gave it up though when we got to the old Greyhound station. Too rough around there even for her I suppose.
Most of those hanging out there are not even vertical, just flop where were, in a heap.

I suppose this is the results of Progressive leadership on display.

So have I river. However, the point is why is Portland now in this state? In the early 60's I walk this part of town everyday, doing my job. Geez, it has come a long way down. Not all that long ago, they built the Max to take over that street. Long after I move out of Oregon, Now Max rolls by, down sixth with nobody on it and it owns the friggin street! Who the hell wants to ride the Max into this shit hole?

The place is in a state of dereliction from damn poor leadership.

Seems to me you failed to provide leadership yourself. Why didn't you tell those folks to get a job and a haircut? That's all it would have taken, you could have solved the problem.

It's not for me to say. It's for you to say. You are the one that ascribes their existence to 'damn poor leadership'. So what sort of leadership would solve the problem? What's your solution?

I am not running for the job! But if I were, I would move the lot out of there. Set up a camp some where cheap, perhaps East of Christmas Valley. Some where equal to the value the Portland voters wish to contribute. But not being a Portlanders perhaps they wish to let the rabble have the streets of the once fine City with a Max to no where.
