That's a poor excuse. Children are our most valuable resource, even more valuable than our soldiers.

didn't say it as an excuse...schools can hardly keep their budgets to complete a school year as it is...fact...money is the reason they don't have bullet proof walls right now...also why we don't all have bullet proof cars....I'm not disagreeing that it could help...I'm saying the money is just not there..computers are needed in schools too...thanks to Bill Gates our local small school and library have computers from the Gates foundation...maybe the NRA could bulletproof our schools but the tax levy for public schools sure won't afford to do it. Good to see a student using original thought to come up with the idea though.

This. Children are our future. Instead of investing in them we disenfranchise them. We gamble with our future. Not a good gamble.

That'd be good publicity about now for the NRA. Yeah education is way underfunded. With most of the budget going to the military there is little for much else. I understand the need to protect our country but what good does that do if our country has no future. It has become more and more apparent the leaders of our country and the corporations that run everything don't see our children as our future. Sad

Yeah, you meant it as cheap ass far Right wingers' excuse since they'll never vote for anything for public schools. They'd figure on installing such walls in schools that teach Creationism except they figure they don't need them. That's what I was responding to, not you.

This raises a whole new subject. Why don't we fund schools nationally so we can guarantee a more equal education for all?

Schools and teachers are an outdated concept. E-learning is the future.

The incidence of school shootings is so rare, that this is a waste of money.

Well then, since there is less voter fraud than kids killed in school shootings, I guess you're ready to give up on voter ID. Also, I don't think there are too many killings over voter fraud.

RARE????? WTF do you think has been happening over the last several years. One shooting is too many.

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/21/us/school-shooting-us-versus-world-trnd/index.html

288 shootings since 2009. That's around 2/3 of a full year worth of shootings in less than 10 years.

I've seen plenty of kids who don't go to school and you're foolin' yourself if you think they're "E learning"...there are so many things you can't learn without schools ..like group achievements...team work...on and on....if your kids are "E" learning they'll know how to play video games...for kids without internet access..I guess they'd just be out of luck....teachers have a huge impact on how kids set goals. More often than not...parents don't ...teachers jobs are to teach kids how to learn and address their own problems ...kids roaming the streets are probably going to learn how to make meth or peddle drugs to make money or even worse. E learning is for 40 year olds that's kids have finally left home so they can get their college degrees online and still hold down a job while doing it.

Statistically, they are extremely rare when you factor how many schools there are in the country. Its not like you go to a random school on a random day and have a good chance of getting shot. Or even a chance at all. Its a statistical anomaly.

I favor a strong support for our military but it must be judicious. All of our spending must be judicious. e.g. Judicious health care spending would actually reduce overall health care costs as well as improve worker productivity since only sick people stay home from work for medical reasons. Then there's the overall social improvement. I think we ought to start with free health care for children 18 and younger. Healthy food in our schools would also improve their health. Free breakfast and lunch ought to be the norm. Then, poor kids wouldn't have the stigma of being poor when it comes to eating.

We used to have a school nurse. I wonder if any schools provide that these days. How about free shots for kids during the opening week of school? No more sick kids spreading disease.

Dear Mr. Potato Head: How about clean drinking water for all including Flint?

Are you actually asking me to simplify this extremely elementary statement even more?
