Anyone watch the PGA Championship this weekend? Anybody buying into the "Tiger's all the way back" talk? Anyone think this Brooks Koepka cat is going to be the next great golfer? Are Rory McIlroy and Jordan Speith done being relevant? Are Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas the real deal, or just holding down the fort? Anyone planning on watching--or even paying attention to--the FedEx Cup playoffs? Feel free to respond to any or all of the above. Just thought it'd be interesting to hear if anyone in here actually pays any attention to the PGA.
It was really fun to pay attention to the Sunday of a Major again, and it was only because of Tiger for me, like most of us. Weird to root for him, given what a dick I thought he was when he was younger. But he nicer and more humble now. And amazing. Coming back to that level of play, after his physical setbacks, is incredible. I bet he has one or two Majors left in him. Koepka looked fantastic, btw.
Watching golf is faster than Sominex to me....my son loves it....the forum member who is really informed about golf and comes from a true golfing culture here is Homerloveskoolaid but sadly, he no longer posts here....I met him at the Creswell golf tournament and we had a few beers...he's great to talk to about music or golf....I never took much of a liking to the sport ...I like sports where the ball comes back...plus the time I tried golfing, I learned quickly I have no talent for it..I can name two golfers without looking it up...Tiger and Mickleson...
My good buddy, HomerLovesKoolaid, is an avid golfer. He's grooming his son to be a great golfer. In fact, Homer's dad was the golf pro at one of the most renowned courses in Oregon. Still, other than watching his son's rapid rise in the sport and in spite of my father's love for the game, I have little interest. I would like to see Tiger do well as well as Homer's son and that's about it.
The PGA Championship was terrific! I play golf, but my interest is greatest when Tiger is doing well. Koepka is a stud too. He looks like a linebacker out there on the course.
Yes, I love golf! See my avatar? My second hole-in-one was a slam dunk straight in Yes! I am buying that he is virtually all the way back...he keeps cleaning up the stupid mistakes and he will easily win another major again. If he didn't start the tournament on Thursday going bogey, double-bogey then he would have had a 1 stroke victory -- back in his prime he dominated these tournaments because he never made any of these mistakes. Now that he's got his competitive juices flowing in the major tournaments I think he still has a realistic shot to match Nicklaus' 18 majors (assuming he stays healthy for the next 5-10 years). Not so sure Brooks is the "next great golfer"...not because I don't think his skills are amazing, but more because there are so many good golfers coming up. Rory might never get it all back...he seems to be weak mentally. Speith is not done, he will always be relevant because of his supreme putting ability (assuming he doesn't just lose it like Tom Watson did). DJ and JT are definitely the real deal...part of the so many good golfers mentioned above. Yes, I will always be paying attention to the golf world and the tournaments in it
I loved watching the final round on Sunday. Tiger brings the viewers, he is captivating. Koepka is a stud and awesome to see him play solid when he could have choked. I think Tiger will win another major.
I'm about five inches from being an outstanding golfer. That's the distance between my left ear from my right. ~Ben Crenshaw~
...enjoyed watching all 4 rounds...and was pulling hard for Tiger...he played very well and came very close...if he can solve his inconsistency/accuracy with the driver he'll surely win more tourneys...until then, I don't know. ...fwiw, I've been a professional clubmaker/repairer for many years.
...completely independant...sold my storefront business years ago and am now semi-retired and have been working from my shop at home for the last 10 years...no boss, no employees, no stress...and I have quite a following and have customers from all over the world...life is good. ...plenty of internet business...for the most part I specialize in restoring vintage Ping irons...but I also reshaft/regrip all clubs. Hit me up with a PM if I can be of service.
I've always wondered how difficult is it to film golf shots? ...seems like it would be really hard to do. That's a tiny object to focus on in flight. Not a golf fan but thought you'd know the answer to this.
