Pretty common practice when hunting Bear in Alaska, Big Horn Sheep or Moose, to carry a hand gun for back up.

Yes, I have heard of this. I think it is common practice in California and Texas I think.

Also helpful to have one if one needs put an elk out of it's misery, instead of letting it suffer.

A rifle serves the same purpose but can do the job from a safe distance...a wounded bear or moose I want to finish off from a safe distance.

...no, the hand gun is used for DEFENSE or "backup" as you put it...and not typically used for actual "hunting".

...hand guns are for close range...when using a handgun a deer/elk/moose will hear/see/smell you before he gets in "range" and so you probably won't get a shot anyway...a short barreled pistol (44 mag for example) is nowhere near as accurate as a much longer barreled rifle such as a Remington .308 which I prefer...but I also have a .243 which is the flattest shooting and most accurate rifle I've ever owned...at 200 yards I can group 5 shots within 3 inches of each other easily.

...I know what I'm talking about here.

Actually, handguns are used as the primary weapon for bear hunting in alot of instances. It's extremely common.

You may be Georgia's premier rifle expert but obviously your knowledge doesn't extend much further than that.

...before spouting off, how about if you take the time to read little more...I NEVER said hand guns could not be used to hunt with...I said I've known anyone who uses a hand gun to hunt with.

...yeah, sure, you can put a laser sight on a pistol..but if really want to risk your life unnecessarily by standing flat footed and putting a laser dot on the head of an 800 pound female grizzly with cubs as she charges you, be my guest. Why in the world would want to wait till the bear is running at you and is in within 50 yards of ripping your lungs out when you can easily take her from a tree from 200-300 yards away.

...sorry, but again, I know what I'm talking about...and no need for me to google "hunting with a pistol".

...lol..well goody for you...I'm guessing your piggies are nowhere near the size of the boars we have down here can literally chase you down and eat you.

...and hunting deer with a handgun mean a much better chance there's not a clean kill resulting in the animal running off to die unnecessarily a miserable death for the same reason I've already mentioned, which is because they are more accurate...do you dispute this?...yes or no?

...and for the umpteenth time...I NEVER said you cannot use a pistol to hunt with.

Your personal preference has no bearing on reality. Pistols are common in hunting, and you claimed otherwise. I was just correcting you is all.

Also, those are scopes, not lasers. C'mon man.

You know that it's possible to use a pistol to hunt with, right?

The thread is actually about mass shootings and mental health...not hunting...this is getting way off topic

According to my niece I was driving before electricity. We cut a hole in the wooden floorboard so we could propel the car by using our large bare feet. Shoes? What shoes?
