So I’ve been in Seattle at the Microsoft buildings all week which means after business hours a lot of free time I’m not used too! So I decided that since Seinfeld is on Hulu, I would finally give it a watch. All those jokes I’ve been missing out on for years I would finally understand. Anyways, I have really enjoyed it so far which got me thinking, are there any shows you got in on really late or way past there time and you enjoyed?
Yeah, I didn't start watching Seinfeld until it was in syndication and enjoyed it. Don't know if you watched it when it was on the air but Coach was one of my favorites when it was airing as Hayden Fox. Luther and Dobber were pretty funny. The last couple seasons were weak but the early seasons were pretty good.
Of the shows you mentioned, Coach was the only one I’ve seen, my dad and I used to watch it. I don’t watch a lot of tv or shows in general. My wife and I watch the office, arrested development and parks and rec quite a bit on Hulu. I was late to all of those shows too. Lol.
My mom got the complete set of several older shows. The Dean Martin Roasts are fucking brilliant Some of these I saw as a kid, but very funny now Carol Burnett Show Dick Van Dyke Show Mary Tyler Moore Are some
I've actually been contemplating doing with The Office what you're doing with Seinfeld; I never watched it when it was airing, but so many people reference it, I feel like I miss out on conversations by being unfamiliar with it. As for shows I've actually done that with previously, I didn't watch any of Breaking Bad until after it completed its run, but zipped through the full series over the span of a couple months a few years back.
Good call on Dick Van Dyke--started watching that one shortly after Mary Tyler Moore passed. I was surprised at how unique it was in its construction.
I love the office, with a few caveats the first couple episodes have good moments but feel kind of awkward it kind of gets it's legs though and is pretty hilatious until the last couple seasons and then it's still pretty good but definitely seemed like 'ready' to be done. I still haven't watched breaking bad.
Do it, the office is brilliant, especially the first few seasons. Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia deserves a watch also if you haven't seen it.
When your done with Seinfeld watch Curb Your Enthusiasm. It's by Larry David who was a cocreater of Seinfeld, it's not as good but it's still pretty good and has a similar humor style. There is also a bonus Seinfeld reunion episode hidden in it's later seasons
Danny Devito joins in season 2. So if it doesn't grab you in season one give it a shot through season 2.
Randomly, another series I love that I didn't really watch during its main run is "Monk". I love crime shows, but it's one of the few that actually makes you laugh throughout and feel good when it's over. "Psych" fits that bill as well, although I watched that one from the beginning.
My wife won't let me watch Monk. Apparently one of her sisters was absolutely obsessed with it and watched it all the time in her teens so that's not an option heh.
I enjoyed Night Court immensely back when I watched it, but agree...not sure how well it holds up now. By my recollection, a lot of the humor would be pretty dated. As contrasted with, say, Cheers, which I imagine would still be as funny today as it was 30 years ago.
