Look I am not going to get into an argument about his socks. Its the message beyond that. The message that many other players connected with and carried forward. That is the part I agree with.
What is that message? Do you espouse to the same message as dviss? If you can't remember, dviss' words were, Fuck your Flag, fuck your traditions! Kaepernick's actions seem to be the same.
https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/05/nfl-49ers-colin-kaepernick-national-anthem-protest-nate-boyer first link explains the progression of his anthem protest from sitting to the knee, that was suggested by another player who was also an army veteran, decorated green beret. (white player by the way) it is a very short read that sticks to facts and makes no judgements. i suggest not wasting the time to read it but waste the 2minute and 16 seconds it takes to watch the embedded video for boyer's own take of the situation. don't expect you to agree but perhaps understand.
This is the first time I have heard this story. It might have made a difference in the beginning. The first time I saw the disrespect for the flag, it made me think of the first time I ever saw such a thing. Standing the quarter deck watch in Long Beach Harbor in the Naval Shipyard, with the normal watch crew for a Destroyer. Officer of the deck, PO of the watch, and Messenger of the watch. The OD and PO are the only armed men on the ship in port normally, sometimes the Chief or Master of arms is also. Anyway, when sailors come aboard tradition is the salute the Ensign or where it would fly and request permission to come aboard. It is probably 10:30 11:00 when two sailors come aboard, the first just as sailors do. The second, a Black guy with load of hate. Salutes the flag with the finger, and a loud Fuck the flag and this ship too. The OD turns to the PO of the watch (that would be MarAzul) says escort this man below to his bunk. Aye Sir! Off we go, toward the mid ships passage way with 02 deck overhang where it gets dark. Scaffolding tinker toys all about the ship. The Black sailor grumbling, the white sailor following as ordered. Soon as we turn we are in the dark, I can't see a dam thing of the black guy! Damn! I feel the fuck up about to happen, I duck and weave as the blow scraps by my head. I step back into the little light there is and he he comes, Mutha Fuckar! With a hunk of scaffolding in hand. I ducked the swing and step in, .45 already and soon in the soft spot, under the chin. Two sailors, one black and angry, the other white and pissed, one with scaffolding the other with a .45 hammer back. Then reality set in, anger changed to fear, in the eyes and voice. They both lived. Other times I see this disrespect, I think of the image of Michael Browns dad in the back of the pickup truck urging the crowd to Burn this Bitch down! https://www.cnn.com/2014/11/25/us/michael-brown-stepfather-video/index.html
If you'll look at the charts I think you'll readily see that the upturn in the economy happened under Obama. Obama had to deal with the worst financial collapse in 8 decades. Hence, the robust economy is in spite of Trump. A tax cut that has not improved the lives of the lower and middle classes certainly has not helped things nor has the looming trade wars. If you ask me, Trump is incredibly lucky to both have the Russians on his side as well as being able to succeed Obama and inherit his good work. Also, being able to finally dump tailings in our rivers and streams has been helpful to the coal mining industry. Not so helpful to those who get their drinking water downstream from this dumping.
Army Veteran's Apparel Line Counters Nike-Kaepernick Campaign with 'Just Stand' Shirt An Army veteran called out Nike Saturday on Fox & Friends for featuring Colin Kaepernick at the center of the company's "Just Do It" campaign. Tyler Merritt's company, Nine Line Apparel, has countered Nike by releasing a shirt of its own that reads "Just Stand." Merritt, a former Army captain and Nine Line's CEO, said Saturday, "They decided to take a stance. This is our stand.” Nike recently announced a multiyear agreement with Kaepernick, including for his own apparel line, video ads and billboards featuring his image, and a contribution to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback's Know Your Rights charity. Nike Is 'Exploiting' a Divisive Issue: MO College Says It's Dropping Nike After Kaepernick Ad The company drew immediate backlash after releasing a print ad that stated, "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything." Merritt said Saturday that it's hard to make a parallel between an athlete's sacrifice and a soldier's. "The word 'sacrifice' in the military members, it's something severe," he said. He said that Nike's move to feature a controversial figure like Kaepernick was done with a lack of concern about those who may find the former quarterback's actions offensive. "I agree that police brutality is bad, but you know, wearing socks that say pigs..." he said, in reference to when Kaepernick wore socks depicting police officers as pigs. "Actions speak louder than words," Merritt said. "If you want to say that you're promoting social injustice, then actually do something."
Massachusetts jewelry store under fire after 'take a knee' billboard backfires By Kathleen Joyce | Fox News Jewelry store's 'kneeling' billboard draws backlash A jewelry store in Massachusetts has come under fire after their billboard showing a man proposing to a woman on the football field was called racist. The billboard advertising Garieri Jewelers in Sturbridge, Mass., reads: “If you’re going to take a knee this season, please have a ring in your hand!” The billboard, which was located on Route 20 in Charlton, was set up on Saturday. Scott Garieri, the owner of the store, said the advertisement was meant to be “attention-getting” and was a “play on words” regarding NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality, racial inequality and other issues. President Trump has been a vocal critic of the protests. COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS, PRIVATE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, DROPS NIKE OVER KAEPERNICK AD "It was intended to be attention-getting," Garieri told Boston 25 News. “The way that the football season was, everyone had a thing about taking the knee,” he told the Washington Post. He said the reactions to the billboard were at first positive until one driver, traveling down Route 20, took a picture of it and posted it on Facebook, calling it racist. "Someone saw it, pulled in off Route 20 and took a picture of it and then went off about how racist it is," Garieri told Boston 25 News. "Then they started attacking us, they wanted to come in and vomit on the [jewelry] cases, they were going to urinate on our sidewalks." Comments flooded into social media including one that said Garieri’s daughter, Alexandria, who manages the store, should kill herself. “That’s when it started to get out of hand,” Garieri said. “We want to sell engagement rings. We’re selling love, not hate,” Alexandria Garieri told the Washington Post. “We were never wanting to be offensive, it was always meant to be satirical.” The controversial ad by Nike featuring Kaepernick aired just a few days after the billboard was put up. "I'm a firm believer in respecting the country, respecting the flag, respecting the national anthem," Garieri said. Garieri said the billboard was staying up despite the backlash. "It wasn't meant to be racist, business is business," he said.
I have never said Obama didn't do anything positive for our economy, Im just pointing out the the economy now is humming and I don't care who's done it. If it was doing well under Obama how could anyone say its not doing as well now? Like a mentioned yesterday Lanny, My wife and I will pay much less fed tax this year which helps us a retired . My kids, some liberal are getting more in their checks then they ever did the previous 8 years. Whats wrong with that. I just don't get why people won't at least agree partially with some positive happenings rather than erecting is bad under this president. I never took that position when Obama was in, I give any admin credit regardless of party. Im personally hoping our Country and kids get to achieve great things and prosper. These staunch left and rights are so caught up in politics and don't see real positive things happening.
^^^the tax bill is a boon for the rich and for for big business and does very little to help the middle class..I think you'll also find that though there may be a small percentage of more take home pay than before, the usual tax refund will be less than before...and so as far as net difference, it really doesn't help much, especially when you consider consumer prices also going up.
You're filthy rich? I can match that except that I'm not that rich. Oh, people, people, I didn't mean it that way. Hey, I take a bath the first Saturday night of each month. And I usually get the second use of the water in the tub. Nope, no third hand washing for me. Oh, and I change my underwear and socks at the same time as my bath, so there.
I don't really understand it either. But there are people on here who've made the claim that as soon as it was shown Trump had a chance to be the republican nominee. That business owners then decided to open their pocket books and spend giving the economy a boost. That statement has been made by more than just the troll account. It's a matter of what you choose to believe/find more difficult to believe. Do you believe the mention of overlord Donald Trump having a chance at the presidency boosted the economy? Or Do you believe that over the course of time during the previous administration the economy was managed to a point that the next administration would benefit. So much so they'd attempt to take credit for the boost? Political grandstanding. I don't see how tariffs are going to help the economy. When other countries respond with tariffs of their own. Simply because it may help one business, yet it hurts another.
Not sure I understand the point your trying to make about bath's and underwear? And, I don't see where I said I was rich? I am, but in different ways than monetary! I was always taught my kids to admit their mistakes, but also be humble enough to admit your wrong and others can be right, in some things too. Thats why I it saddens me to see both sides so adamant about the other side being wrong in all things.
