Dame is already one of the best players to ever be a Blazer. He’s proven he wants to be here, and has taken a team that isn’t that talented without him to the playoffs for years now. Does he need to win in the playoffs? Of course. However playing hardball with him and letting him walk because they’ve failed to put any talent outside of C.J. around him would set them back for years. They pretty much have to give him whatever they want.

The idea you have to be LeBron esque to be worth the max extension doesn’t make sense to me.

The onus is one PA/ NO to put some talent around him. Aminu and Harkless were their starting forwards last year, they combined to average 15.8ppg and 10.3 rpg’s. That’s barely a double from there starting forwards combined... The guy NO wants us to be excited about is Zach Collins, he averaged 4.4 points and 3.3 boards on an awful 45.8 eFG.
Now I know Zach is a good defender and hopefully this year is quite a bit better, he has potential. My point is when you get so little from ‘key’ players you’re in trouble.
Even LeBron just got swept Because he didn’t have much around him.
This sounds like an excuse, I realize Dame needs to play better in the playoffs. I just think his worth to franchise is incredible, he’s the only thing making them all that relevant right now. I like C.J., I think Nurkic and Zach could someday be a good front court together, but it’s Dames team and it’s not close.

Davis' playoff success is tough to quantify, being so new, but it can only be viewed as an upward trend. Lillard's, meanwhile, is a steep downward trend. Even if you ignore this year's dud, it's still a pretty ugly picture post-Houston. And even the Houston series has to be viewed with an asterisk, as pre-injury Beverly was one of Dame's toughest defenders.

Regular season Dame is a top-10 player. Playoff Dame isn't a top-50 player.

People will dismiss it as a small sample size, but the team has showed it is capable of playing well without Dame, so I don't buy it that his playoff shortcomings are due to lack of surrounding talent. Some can, and probably should, be attributed to coaching schemes, but a player as great as Dame's reputation should make adjustments on his own at some point.

That would be AOK by me, too! As long as that doesn't make him another Derrick Rose (who I thought played like the Lebron of PGs), ready to fizzle out with injuries.

At the deadline, if they're not in playoff position and there's rumors that AD wants out, I could see it. They may want to anyway since they're not getting anywhere with him and he doesn't seem to have a bond with the city like Dame does with us.

I wouldn't completely dismiss it as a small sample, but I would say they have never played against a team that was game planning for a team that didn't have Dame, as the longest stretch they had without him last year was 5 games. CJ is still very good and when Dame hasn't played it's been the CJ McCollum show which is fine. I agree with your points that Dame being as good as he should have made adjustments to play better in the playoffs. I don't think Dame would make it an excuse, but after the Having a new Baby / Brother getting shot day he never played the same, even in the regular season he was a much different player after that.

The Playoffs are such a different game than the regular season. Teams can sell out 100% on Dame and CJ where they can't and don't in the regular season, I actually see the last few playoff performances as my evidence that they desperately need more talent around them if they're going anywhere. When teams can go all out to stop them, no one else is really capable of doing much. Aminu had a good series vs. the pelicans but it wasn't game changing. Maybe a guy like curry, or Trent will help but the last few years there has been absolutely 0 players on the Blazers entire roster that teams were scared of.

I understand your point, I just think the Blazers are in a position they basically have to pay him. They really aren't that talented without him. They have CJ and Maybe Nurk as guys who would start on other teams, most of the other guys (at least last year) would've been maybe rotation players on other teams.

    He is LeBron Esque.

    1st Team All NBA.

MFs comparing him to SAR need to be slapped, tarred, and feathered.

Did SAR win a playoff series?

I'm referring to the second one, but I see you have them taking on contracts and old guys while also getting a couple of picks in the process.

They have a couple bad two year contracts remaining, so contracts don't matter. A couple picks for Holiday is solid value if theyre blowing it up.

    Bullshit.

Dame totally lit Beverly up in that series, starting in Game 1 (31 points). He had an ORtg of 135, a TS% of .665 and a 3FG% of .489. He averaged 25.5/6.3/6.7 and did so very efficiently. Pat Bev the alleged Lillard stopper had a DRtg of 120, the worst of any HOU player. Why, because he was the one guarding Damian Lillard, who owned his ass, for most of the series.

You are completely overrating Beverly and overstating his "injury". He played in all 6 games and was on the floor for the final 0.9 seconds, but he was guarding Mo Williams, not Damian Lillard, because McHale knew the 6'1" Beverly had ZERO chance of stopping Damian Lillard in a catch and shoot situation. Lillard had been burning him from 3-point range for the entire series.

The myth of Patrick Beverly as Lillard stopper is every bit as ridiculous as Ruben Patterson proclaiming himself the Kobe stopper.

Speaking from experience, after about 275 it's pretty hard to keep track. He must've had some good record keeping.

I'm just interested if HJ's wife knows what he's been up to, she'd probably forgive the first 275 heh.
