or come in this forum and read one of maris's posts. If you're not asleep before you finish it, then there is no solution. It's why I avoid reading them. :biglaugh:

I truly believe in using natural ingredients and have found Kosher Kush or Purple Hindu Kush as a very effective aid. :smiley-smiley-049:

I used to have trouble sleeping.

The first thing I did was really really control what I thought about. I "write" plot lines if I have trouble sleeping. And I'm very disciplined when my mind wanders to bring it back to the story. I know someone who builds sheds to fall asleep...bit by bit, cut by cut, nail by nail. Just super focused on the task. It's different that the counting sheep thing...it isn't lulling, it's controlling what direction your mind is going. It works well for me.

Also, I never ever add up my hours or even think about it. I never stress about not falling asleep. I just accept it without thinking about it. Same if I wake up in the middle of the night, I try not to think too deeply, but if I do and can't fall back asleep, I either just get up for a while, or do something else until I'm ready to try again. Not stressing, taking the pressure off, controlling your thoughts, these are the things I do. Good luck.

I've found the only guaranteed sleep remedy for me is exercising 5 days a week for an hour or so. When I switched to 3 days of more exerting exercise over 40 minutes, I started having sleeping problems. When I switched to zero days, it all went to hell. I've had others tell me strictly doing cardio is a good sleep remedy. I concentrated on weight training with light cardio, and I think the muscle recovery probably inhibited sleep at times. I'd wake up in the middle of the night with muscle spasms or pulsing. Usually, a midnight snack would simmer it down and help make me drowsy, so eating late can help induce sleep. None of the sleep aids mentioned help me, except Z-quil. I use that daily at this point. Surprisingly, it still works although it really only helps me fall asleep eventually, not immediately. Depending on your physical health, maybe you can't exercise 5 days a week. As I've gotten older, a few hours doing yard maintenance will typically knock me out easier that night. So, it doesn't necessarily take much, but I think going at it awhile is key.

...me and my wife try to workout every day during the weekdays...and the generic zquil 2-3 nights a week works for us.

For 25 years now I listen to sports radio when I go to bed. My sleep issues are mostly mental though. Thinking about sports helps relax my mind and not think about stressful things. It was also comforting that someone was up with me every night. Luckily my wife doesn't mind the noise (she's a heavy sleeper) and is usually asleep by the time I go to bed anyway.

Lately having 3 kids is exhausting so I fall asleep very easily. However, I wake up a lot. I try so hard not to look at the clock but I always end up looking.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned essential oils yet. Somebody has to have a wife that bought into some stupid multi-level marketing scheme...

Instead, I have a wife who ruthlessly mocks those who buy into the scheme.

Don't knock them thar oils. They soften the skin and smell good. A combo made in heaven. Cheap at twice the price. It'll go good with my bubble bath and "Men's" fragrance that smells so wonderful on me. Now, I feel the need for a mud facial and the firm hands of a manly woman massaging away the day's troubles.

I'm gonna tell you a secret but don't you dare tell anyone else in here. I go to a salon for my weekly treatments. They shampoo, style and give me the most wonderful permanents followed by a half an hour under the hood of a hair dryer. Sometimes I have them add streaks to my hair to make me look naughty. Don't forget, mum's the word.
