I doubt he comes to Portland. Neil would Never trade his Darling CJ, and i'm sure the timberwolves want CJ for Butler

Gary Harris for Butler straight up works, financially, and itd still keep Denver below the tax line. Harris is a better return than most teams could realistically offer imo. It’s definitely better than anything we can put on the table, assuming Olshey has a vice grip on CJ and Collins.

Our only hope is they insist on someone taking Dieng.

I like the Denver guess, too.

Just to be different, I’ll say OKC. They’ve gotten the last two Blazer “targets” in Carmelo and PG13. Why not one more?

I’m sure we’ll be listed as one of the teams that made a push but wasn’t willing to include X piece that Neil just could not let go of because of “synergy” or “right fit” or whatever buzzword he’ll leak to some writer.

Ehhh, I wouldn't blame him. The personal issues of Butler's are scary. Not only is he a flight risk, but he could also destroy the organization if he stays...

I could see something like this happening:
CHA Gets: Jimmy Butler, Gorgui Dieng,
MIN Gets: Miles Bridges, Malik Monk, Jeremy Lamb, Bismack Biyombo,
    - Minnesota gets a great package and adds much needed wing depth.
    - Charlotte pairs Butler with Kemba Walker.

And then Charlotte going after Whiteside with something like this:
CHA Gets: Hassan Whiteside, Dion Waiters, Rodney McGruder (TPE)
MIA Gets: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Cody Zeller, Frank Kaminsky, 2019 CHA Lottery Protected 1st
    - Miami saves the $6.2M required to get under the luxury tax line.

    Charlotte:
    Walker (35) / Graham (13)
    Butler (20) / Waiters (20) / McGruder (8)
    Batum (32) / Butler (16)
    Williams (30) / Dieng (18)
    Whiteside (33) / Hernangomez (15)
    - Would likely be a top 6 or 7 team in the east.

    Miami:
    Dragic (32) / T.Johnson (16)
    Ellington (24) / Wade (24)
    Richardson (26) / Winslow (12) / J.Johnson (10) / MKG
    J.Johnson (16) / Kaminsky (20) / Adebeyo (12)
    Olynyk (20) / Zeller (20) / Adebeyo (8)
    - Very deep 11 man rotation which sees few minutes for Winslow and no minutes for MKG. Would try to consolidate later.

    Minnesota:
    Teague (28) / Jones (20)
    Lamb (20) / Monk (28)
    Wiggins (15) / Bridges (26) / Lamb (7)
    Gibson (30) / Wiggins (18)
    Towns (35) / Biyombo (13)

I'm so turned around by the post-Nurkic trade Trail Blazers that just assume, as many on here have said, that we'll just hear that there were talks but nothing substantial or nothing came to fruition or whatever. I expect Woj will let us know this and I'll punch a wall or something but what I really want to know is this:

Considering there have been post trade rumors about PG and Melo and whoever else, 1. do we believe them and 2. is there any reason to think that Olshey will go out for Butler like many of us feel he should? What I mean is: if you look at what Olshey has been doing, acquiring, saying, etc. does Jimmy Butler fit into that glacial-paced trajectory? I think so.

Melo would’ve taken less to acquire, and we had better assets (at least ones that Olshey would’ve parted with easier) with George.

Butler would actually require a huge risk by Neil, and so far, he’s erred on the side of caution more times than not.

I remember hearing a story about Jerry West in Memphis in 2004 offseason, owner was mad about his lack of activity, and wanted something done, so he picked up the phone and offered an absurd deal(6 years, 37 million) to Brian Cardinal.

I'm certain he's traded within a week. And I know it won't end up being us, no matter how much I want it to be. Someone will offer an ok package, they'll take it. We'll say why didn't Neil do X, Y, A, or 4, and then we'll go into the year with what we got.
However, that doesn't make for fun forum chatter, so, the way I figure, we have 2 options in going after him. With Cj, and without. If we offered CJ, in a package where they want back a win now piece, I don't think there's another team offering up something better. Specifically in a one player, veteran offer, non-rebuilding package. I don't see a team that beats that, in that scenario. Which, to me, means, you get more back. maybe Butler is better than CJ, but Butler, disgruntled, demanding out, on an expiring, is not a better asset than CJ, locked in for 3 more years. They'd need to sweeten, or take back, or both. And they're butting up against the LT, and are poorly constructed, salary wise, to put together a good deal in that manner.
The other option is similar to the attempt for Paul George, take what you want outside of Dame, CJ, and Nurk.
