A thought on the current state of things.

FBI is doing an outrageously shabby sham of an investigation, refusing to talk to various witnesses and even the key players.

Why? Well, obviously because that's what the White House ordered.

Why did the White House order that?

Theory 1 (the usual one): because they want to railroad the nomination through and are afraid that the FBI might find something if they let them loose. So do a quick attempt to whitehousewash the situation, and then vote him in.

The trouble with that theory is that everyone already knows that's what's going on, and the Dems will obviously launch an investigation of the investigation as of January. Kav is super unpopular now, and there will be a price to pay in the midterms.

Theory 2: they have counted the votes and already have accepted that Kavanaugh will not get confirmed. Therefore it is in their best interest to hurry the process up so that they can get someone else nominated. They figure as long as Kavanaugh doesn't get confirmed, no one will care about the slapdash investigation.

When are y'all gonna stop with this bullshit???

I mean really. He isn't on trial. He's in a special interview for a special job and he's failing miserably.

Is Kavanaugh the best the conservatives can do? If so, it speaks volumes.

From what I've read (I'll try to find a link) McConnell will punt the House to push through Kavanaugh and keep the Senate. From the polling in WV and ND, they may get the 50 votes without Flake and Collins now, and there's a non-zero chance they pick up a few seats in Nov. :dunno:

I don't think so, but just based on timing. Assuming today they said "Kavanaugh's out, Barrett is the new nominee" it takes about 2 months to confirm even with a squeaky-clean record, which puts the vote in DEC after the midterms. Do you think there'd be a way that they could get 50 lame-duck votes? I think that the D's (justifiably) would say "we're not confirming anyone until the new Senate is seated--elections have consequences"

    Your reading comprehension off?

I'm saying it's a bullshit argument because he isn't in trial.

...which is why it is so important that people vote. We can complain all we want but we absolutely must vote.

    Ha! Reality theory.
It is time to vote, get this proven conservative text reading judge on the court. He will be there probably 30 years or so, depending on how much beer he takes.

That's a win for the rule of law in this nation.

If the vote fails, put the next text reading judge up for nomination and return to the above.
The nation will eventually win by assuring the rule of law for the next 30 years or so.

Forget about impeachment for the small shit. 67 Senators are not going to do a screw up of that magnitude.

He's one of many qualified people. My guess is that many of the R's don't like that this looks like a political trumped-up (no pun intended) allegation to defeat someone because the D's don't like Trump getting another Justice (and think they can hold off until Jan or 2021), and are pushing back on general principle. A good question for me is: "Is this the hill you want to die on?" I don't think Barrett or Thupar (no name two qualified people on the 'short list') would get this particular sex-assault allegation, but I don't think Maize Hirono and Cory Booker, to name 2, are voting for either of them. So why try to appease those folks?

The extreme left has always been
Im sure there are more conservative candidates than Kav for sure.
Im not one to totally buy the "its a job interview" deal as its just to easy for either side to start a smear campaign, one right after the other and indefinitely. So they can be tried in the view of public opinion.
Its apparent to me neither side will be unbiased and put the good of the Country First and offer a balanced solution.

Yes, I know. At the end of the process he will be guilty of nothing. No impediments on record.

Not sure about that (but, literally, I'm not sure). It seems to me if any of Flake/Murkowski/Collins vote no, that gives red state dems a lot of cover to also vote no.
So I don't think he gets in on a split vote. On the polling, no question that ND is in play, but I haven't seen anything too scary in WV.

D's will say that after the midterms, but that won't stop McConnell from forcing it through, if he has the R votes (and I think he would, assuming a 'normal' nominee is chosen (e.g. one of Barrett, Hardiman, Kethledge, etc). McConnell has no problem whatsoever with rank hypocrisy.

That's the wrong question. It's Flake, Murkowski, and/or Collins you'd be appeasing with a less-tainted judge. If they are ok with Kavanaugh, then there's no need for an alternative.

It seems like a Flake should be made aware of his possible next duty assignment.
Ambassador to Inuit people in Nunavut on Baffin Island at Iqaluit.
Of Course other appointment could be also possible.

Say what? Where'd you get this given that the report hasn't been sent to the Senate yet, let alone been made public?

...well if nothing else, if at the end of the process he is not confirmed, he should be charged with criminal stupidity because of the way he handled it.

...and if Kavanaugh is not confirmed, where will his next assignment be?
