This came from a Lamar Hurd tweet: "Tom Thibodeau just said he thinks Evan Turner is one of the NBA's most underrated players. High praise coming from an accomplished coach."

I’m pretty sure Thibs knows Turner as well since both spend (spent) a lot of time in Chicago.

I think Thibs is one of the most overrated coaches in the league!

See that's confusing to me, because people said that Rivers was overrated in Boston because of having Thibs as an assistant. Or are we saying that Thibs is only overrated as a head coach, but properly highly rated as an assistant?

Well I didnt say anything about them in Boston. Doc was pretty over rated there too he kind of lucked into 3 hall of famers ready to win. Only won once and then, Doc did a terrible job of handling the Rondo / Ray Allen drama. Doc has basically done nothing since then, he had a few ok regular seasons with CP3 and Blake / Deandre, but again failed to keep people happy. CP3 asked out because of in large part (at least from what Ive read) because of his treatment of his son.

Thibs had a couple good years in Chicago while riding his players knees and bodies into the ground, and failed to even be competitive with Lebrons teams. Then in Minnesota he cant even get one of ‘his’ players to stay in. He’s also supposed to be a defensive mastermind and Minnesota’s defense isnt very good.

To me they’re both over-rated from a couple years where they got to coach prime Allen, Pierce and Garnett.

I would absolutely agree with the latter.

Even with lots of talent, it takes good coaching to go all the way. Ask 1998 Del Harris and 2012 Michael D'Antoni.

Sure it does but Talent almost always beats coaching, and Talent will go far without good coaching too. Its why Lebrons always there his talent. At that point in the east they had 0 challengers all the ‘good’ teams had 1 guy, Bosh, Wade, Lebron. Detroit was getting old. Talent drove those Celtic teams, Im not saying coaching had nothing to do with it, I am saying that Doc and Thibs both became very over-rated from those couple years. With Garnett, Pierce and Allen, they not only had 3 hall of famers, but 3 guys in their prime who had a ton of experience and were ready to win.

Doc and Thibs have been made out to be ‘elite’ coaches and Id say Thibs is a fine assistant, and Doc is a very average coach. He’s lost hall of fame players twice now because he didnt keep his locker rooms happy.
Thibs is has / will lose Butler who is supposed to be one of, “his” guys because he couldnt figure out how to get those guys to click.
I just dont believe either of those two coaches deserve the, “elite coach”, label they are so often given.

What part of his boss TELLING him what to do sounds like Thibs is in charge?

If Thibs was in charge, Butler would not be available and they wouldn't even be listening to offers.

What team did Butler get traded to?

And he’s “available” because he demanded a trade.

The only reason I can see that Olshey would not be getting involved here is because he called Butler's agent and asked if Butler would sign long term here and when told no, he just gives up. That's my impression of how he does business; it also seems that is what happened with Cousins. (Although Cousins himself acted like he never heard about it). Maybe I am wrong about Olshey; if so, I hope he proves it soon.

I wonder if Kyrie announcing he'll re-sign in Boston has changed Butler's calculations. If he was planning on teaming up with Irving in NY or Brooklyn, that's now off the table.

I don't get why Washington doesn't just offer Otto Porter. If you're willing to acquire Dwight Howard, you're obviously trying for a quick fix, so why not go whole hog and get Butler?
