There are gazillions of acronyms and initialized words. Simply state what you want to say without the acronym or initialized word. Otherwise, you're leaving it up to others to fill it in like Mad Libs. And some will certainly do it to piss you off.

Sure, but if you asked me what the initials MR stand for, I don't think I could come up with anything. Or would that be an acronym?

Half the time I see kids using acronyms that I have to really think to figure out.

Says the white guy. You're (unsurprisingly) missing the point.

This. I just started a new career and learning all the acronyms for this job sector is effing rediculous. I'll look tomorrow if there is anything that MR stands for. I wouldn't be surprised.

    No quota.

I think being polite is almost always the way to go, and I was using "fuck off" as a catchall. In a polite, fair world, one should be polite and fair. It's when people cross that line that I really think it is important to call them out. Otherwise, there is no hope.

And this case is complicated on so many levels. Imagine being distrusted and profiled by both strangers and the police. Having it strongly implied you're a kidnapper because you've taken your friend's kids to lunch. And imagine as the police roll up how many times that has gone wrong for people that look like you. Imagine that potential in the air, that stress. White Americans don't have to give their kids "the talk" about the police; most probably don't even know what that is. "The talk" to white Americans is the birds and the bees, and not how to stay alive.

And that's just a sliver of the subtle and overt things going on. People just aren't understanding enough about this stuff, I think. This country is so safe and comfortable for them, maybe, that they just can't imagine this other storyline. And again, I think the only way to bring about change is to call people out.

I hear what you are saying. My mother told me about the atrocities she witnessed in the deep south during the 50s and 60s as a child. That's why she raised her sons to like all people regardless of their differences. I don't claim to know the difficulties from one person to another, but I try live peacefully while loving my friends and family.

I've spent many years in China and witnessed the other side of the coin. More so than what most people know about me.

Heck, you might actually like me if you got to know me.

Same with my mother. North Carolina. I actually spent most of my first decade in this world in South Carolina. When I visit now, it's socially shocking after living in Portland for so many years.

I feel bad now. I'll be nicer (at least to you!); although that dvd thing was just supposed to be a lighthearted joke!

It's cool. You just happened to catch me on a bad day. My father lives with me since his second stroke and it hasn't been easy.

The company I worked for was a distributor of Chevron oil and chemical products and it seemed Chevron never used words and instead used initials especially when describing a position in the company. It's almost like they needed to hand out cards with the initials and actual meaning to understand in some of the meetings.

That's when the police do their job and investigate. That is what we pay them to do.

Well Lanny, that is why this is a huge issue. Some cops will believe whatever the white woman says in this situation 100% of the time. The cops shouldn't have even been called.

Okay, if you're gonna get into it, my mom and I are from Georgia and my dad was from Alabama. My dad told me stories about how African-Americans were treated that would curl your toes.

Here's a little side note that I may have told before but I just can't remember. My Aunt on mom's side was the babysitter for Margaret Mitchell. When Gone With the Wind opened in Atlanta, in the viewing crowd was the cast and my Aunt and her brother, my Uncle. My Aunt and Uncle also got to go to a party afterwards along with the cast, Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia De Havilland.

I've heard the term used just never abbreviated.

A mandatory reporter is someone who is bound by the law to report Child Abuse 24/7, whether at work, home, the store, etc. Being a Teacher I am one.

    Thanks.
My wife taught elementary for 40 years and I never heard that term.
I guess I'm never to old to learn.
She a number of times had to report abuse.
    What grade do you teach?
