Yeah sorry, I thought you meant weeks, but I wasnt quite sure. You dont need an editor just a smarter audience lol.
Trading for Butler would be a gamble. No doubt about it. But it’s the kind of move this team needs to make if they hope to win a championship while Dame is here. With that said, I think Paul’s death could put the kibosh on any moves until the team sells.
Nope. I see it as a lose/lose situation - that contract he's going to demand is not something I want to be part of.
Yes, it's the kind of move we will need to make in order to improve. But THIS is not THE move to make.
This is the only way we could ever hope to acquire a player of his caliber (other than the draft). So what’s a better scenario?
Yeah mid season trades are not the time to get a star in return. But if Houston continues to suck, I bet they ante up.
guys guys may be right but I see legit or up and coming star (like a CJ) involved when its all said and done.
I don’t think we can call CJ legit or up and coming. He is 27 and he has been in the league for five seasons (this will be his sixth season). He isn’t an All Star and I don’t know if I see him taking some huge jump on our team. He just is what he is. If he went somewhere and became The Man maybe he could be a star.
Which is why a CJ for Butler trade would be good for Portland. CJ's good, but not an All Star level - and most likely will never get to the level of Butler
I realize the Blazers probably need to make a move to get a star at some point, and Butler is better than CJ but theres a huge risk in this say they Traded CJ for Jimmy. It probably makes them better THIS year, but then what? He either leaves and all you got was a year (if he plays a full year) of Butler. If he stays you're stuck paying a guy in his 30's who had problems staying on the court. To me with as low as the bidding must be at this point, if the Blazers want to shoot for the fences with Jimmy they shouldn't do it at the expense of CJ.
Turner - Aminu - Leonard for Butler and Dieng. Works in the trade machine. Gives an expiring (Aminu) for direct cap relief of 7M next season. Turner looks good at the moment and Dieng helps them in the long term. Doesn't it make sense? Are we sure we need to add a pick? I am not.
I've been trying to make this point for months but here we are still discussing it. I'd gladly trade our garbage for Butler. But I'm not trading useful/valuable assets for him - I'd prefer to use them at a later time for a different play.
I think it’s possible to get Butler without CJ at this point, but there is no way we have the best offer without adding in Simons at the very least... but Turner, Aminu, Simons, possibly a lotto protected 1st might be enough for Butler and Deing... which I never thought would be possible a month ago
A couple months ago I wouldve been ok with trading CJ for butler, but its become more clear there isnt a bidding war, and the long term risk to me doesnt make sense at this point.
Lack of a bidding war hasn't kept NeO from offering way more than than anyone else came close to expecting before: "(Turner) was almost as stunned as you by Portland's mega-offer, by the way. Turner's agent made him promise not to tell anyone about the proposal until he signed it. Turner was too giddy, though. He hung up with his agent, immediately called Andre Iguodala, still a close friend and mentor, and blurted out, "Yo, Dre! They offered this!" Turner recalled, laughing. Iguodala told him to take the deal right away."
This isn't the time to trade our PGOTF Anfernee Simons. His trade value is the lowest it will ever be. If we (Dame) develop Simons right over the next couple of years (and Dame will) he'll either be a vital part of the team or a valuable trade piece. IMO it's bad business to include Simons in any trade.
