All the evidence as in assists per game and nothing else?

Is Allen Crabbe selfish? Is Ed Davis selfish? Assists per game and selfish play don't always correlate.

They don’t move the ball. Call it whatever you want.

    We need playmakers.

Out of all the things we need to upgrade in our starting SF, you place a premium on playmaking?

We need an elite shooter who can play without the ball and space the floor for Dame, CJ, E.T., and Nurk, as well as someone who can attack the open lane and get to the rim if it's there. We need someone who can defend at a high level across multiple positions.

Yes playmaking. I want the starters to be a better version of the second unit. The starting unit has two players willing/capable of creating for others and one of them is a center. Our second unit is largely responsible for most of our wins so far. Why not try and get the starters to play the same way?

It’s frustrating how ridiculously obvious a CJ for Jimmy trade is for both teams... Blazers have a chance to pair Dame with another top 15 player in Butler and take this team to the next level... with more than enough fire power in Stauskas and Curry to replace CJ at SG... would create so much balance to our roster and greatly increase size and defense to starting lineup... CJ would probably flourish in Minn as well

Don't you think they've done their due deligense on acquiring Butler?

If by due diligence you mean seeing if they’d bite on their lowball offer, yeah.

No way has Neil put CJ on the table.

Honestly a KAT/Wiggins/CJ tandem doesn’t sound too bad. I mean there’s not a lot of defense there but I don’t think they could hope to get a better player for jimmy in their current situation.

There's no way a Butler trade happens.

Regardless of whether he'd help this team or not, his actions these last few weeks have made it clear to me that this FO is not bringing a guy like him in.

I’m so confident in Dame’s leadership and maturity that I know Jimmy would work out in Portland and resign here... come on Neil, offer them CJ please!

If we as Blazer fans believe in that, as you suggest, we shouldn't be too worried about Butler.

you may be right. I would think if butlers agent said it was good fit and he would stay, Neil would give it serious consideration.

you really don't think he's give it consideration and discuss with his direct report?

I would love to see Dame and Butler together. On the Court I definitely think they could make it work. I just don't see any big trades happening unless it's to cut salary. We lost our owner and I think that we should be more concerned about who the next owner of this team will be and how it will be ran.

I'm pretty critical of NO, but this time I think his approach is justified.

    1) Unless there is a high probability he re-signs, why pay top dollar for a short-term rental that won't be enough to push you to the title this season?
    2) Even if you can re-sign him, his injury history reduces his value as a long-term building block.
    3) Every time he opens his mouth, the needle moves away from "too intense for his own good" and towards "just a selfish douche-bag."

For all his talent, Butler looks like a bad investment. At this point I would rather wait and try to steal somebody when the Wiz implode and have a fire-sale. I say this as someone who at one time would have traded CJ for him in a heartbeat!

I feel like what's made us better so far this year is that we added a couple guys who can shoot, but also can put the ball on the floor, I don't know if you want to call it a "play maker" or what, but I've been really impressed with Nik's ability to put the ball on the floor when the opponent closes out. Guys like Aminu, Harkless, Leonard, Connaughton (from last year), while they can shoot, are so little threat to put the ball on the floor that teams still played off of them all the time because they knew they could close out and either get them to pass or would make them shoot a contested shot. When the defense knows we can't close out hard because they'll just go around us that is when a 3 point shooter becomes a big threat. It's why that strategy that NO uses of saying Aminu is the guy who's going to have to beat us works, because yeah he may once in a while get hot and they'll beat us, their betting that it won't happen very often. If Aminu's ball handling was even average for a wing, if he could pump fake dribble and either get himself a shot or someone else a shot then the strategy they employ wouldn't work at all. It becomes really noticeable when Harkless and Aminu are on the court at the same time.
I agree with basically everything you're saying, but some level of adequate "play making" will be needed. Also Zach has only done it a couple times now but when he's put the ball down and went to the basket he's looked pretty good doing it, even if his handles aren't that good.

In that best case scenario, I agree.

Neil knows more than you when it comes to Butler. Some people can't be led. Jimmy doesn't want to be led at all..
