If we traded cj for butler and butler walked, we'd still be have gotten out of cj contract. And it's possible butler would stay like Paul george.

"Gotten out of cj contract" = Losing CJ for nothing.

Losing CJ for nothing = STUPID.

So the trade the raptors made was stupid? Same concept.

Stop acting like butler is anything like PG or Kawhi.

    I don't trust him. He's blown up 2 teams.

    He's literally Team Obliterator.

The concept is still the same. And unlike Kawhi, I’ve read nothing about Butler being dead set on any specific team. The only teams on his “list” were teams with cap space to sign him.

And CJ isn’t DeRozan. Butler is the best two way SG in the league imo, and a top 15 player.

I think Butler is right about his teammates, but I also think he’s extremely selfish and a couple months ago I would have traded CJ to get him, but at this point I wouldnt. He left Chicago in shambles and him and Thibs seem to be doing the same now in Minnesota.

Frankly, I don't need help understanding the concept...

Butler, Kawhi, and PG are not cut from the same cloth.

Lastly, the jury's still out on the Kawhi trade. He ain't re-signed yet...

From a fan stand point, if NO did pull the trigger and trade CJ, even if I dont think they should. Id at least respect the risk he took.

I'd call for his job much more loudly if Butler walked for nothing or resigned and was perma injured.
Many people did the same thing for Aldridge, Roy, Oden AA.
'You're supposed to get something out of star player trade them.'
'GM's job is to know if a player will stay or not'.
'GM's job is to know if a player is going to get injured before you trade for him.'

Many of these arguments were made on this forum by the same posters calling for CJ to be traded for Butler.

If we trade CJ for a 60-65 game rental of Butler, at a time when his value is at an all time low, I'm gonna be pissed.

So is Toronto better or not? They look like a legit contender to make the finals to me. So what if we “lose” CJ, can’t be great without taking risks. With Butler I see Portland as the second best team in the West.

You can think whatever you want about Butler the person, but to question his impact and ability as a player is non sense. Look at Minnesota’s record with and without him. He dragged that sorry franchise into the playoffs on his back last year and was in the MVP conversation before he got hurt.

Well the only way they get to where there competing with GS is if they get butler without trading CJ. A couple months ago, I wouldve been ok with trading CJ for butler but at this point, No thanks.

Tor looks like the exact same team they did last year. Shitting on people in the regular season.
We'll see if Leonard being on the team means the other players in the rotation actually show up when the playoffs roll around.
Or if it's more of the same.

You just called DeRozan a 2 way player....

You can't do that and expect to be taken seriously...

He's NEVER been a good defender...

I wouldnt do it but Im not sure how Id feel about it. I think the Blazers off season moves all seemed like they were looking for possible CJ replacements. In fact when Ive seen Simons play he moves with a similar fluidity that CJ does (Im not saying he’s as good).
I think CJ’s a very good NBA scorer and if you move him its gotta be for the right deal, and now that Jimmy seems to be in wreck it ralph mode on his team I dont think this would be the right deal.
If internally they’re seeing something they like from Simons, Trent Jr, Stauskus and can go out and make a move using CJ to get better Im kind of ok with that.

Is Butler the only player in the NBA that the Blazers could possibly trade for? If, and it’s a big IF for me, the decision was made to trade CJ, I would be a lot happier trading for a good player who has more than one season left on his contract, has been consistently healthy, and who hasn’t made noise about wanting to play in NY. I’ve never seen such tunnel vision in my life.

A trade for Butler can only work out well if he proves to be this great fit that some of you think he will be and he is happy enough to re- sign here. Otherwise, you’ve wasted a valuable player and trade asset, you still have zero cap space, and you’ve pissed off Dame by trading away his friend and getting zilch in return. I guess once he demands a trade then maybe we end up with some actual cap space and can begin a rebuild so that maybe in five years the team can be as good as it is right now. Maybe.
