So Meyers is great when he's carrying Curry, but with Curry off the floor suddenly Meyers is shit? Clearly Curry is some kind of lucky mascot.
My point: Curry has by far and away our best +/-. Much better than Leonard, for example. This would require enormous contortions to explain in terms of Curry somehow freeriding off the ACTUAL +/- kings (whose REAL higher score is hidden somehow). I don't understand why he isn't given more minutes. If he is, then we can see if it's a fluke, and if it is, then fine, stick him back on the bench. But what I'm seeing is the team rolling with him playing and then Stotts bringing back the starters at some arbitrary minutes mark and our flow being shattered. Stotts tried Curry as a fifth starter in pre-season ONCE - and it was a rousing success. Does he really think we're benefiting more by playing Layman than Curry? Maybe Harkless will get his groove back and all this will be moot, but while we're playing shit, let's try this.
Do you have any argument besides plus minus, or are you going to ignore everything else that points to Curry being dogshit?
Among rotation players, Curry is last in VORP, BPM, WS/48, and PER. And the one thing he was supposed to be good at? Yeah, he’s ninth among rotation players in true shooting percentage. He’s been a disaster. Maybe its just rust, but to argue that he DESERVES more minutes is ridiculous. If we continue hovering around .500, there’s also zero reason to play him over either of the rookies.
Single game +/- is pretty much a worthless sample size. Too many other variables. It's impacted by who the other 9 players are on the floor and what they do. If one team, or even one player gets hot, some guy standing around doing nothing benefits. For the season, Seth Curry is at: -2.2 OBPM -1.2 DBPM -3.4 BPM Even that is a relatively small sample size for such a complex, multi-variate stat, but it's a MUCH better indication of his contributions than a single game statistical anomaly. And, I think when you look at his season as a whole, you will answer your own question about why he isn't playing more. BNM
I don't think the two things have anything to do with each other. You think there is a Curry cause and effect. I guess we disagree.
Because +/- is a team stat. For example, last night Curry was in the game when Dame had 7 points on two consecutive possessions. If Curry only played that minute he'd be a plus 7 for the game even though he literally would have no effect on the outcome. That might be an extreme example but if you honestly watched the games not one person would guess that he has such a high +/-.
Curry doesn't look so great in RPM, but as you can see, he's not that much worse than Klay Thompson, and a lot better than "pleasant surprise" Evan Turner:
Also, Curry better make a stupid sweet Stumptown commercial on the quick otherwise I'll be wanting my Shabazz Is The Man back...
That's why they line up along the side of the key during free throws - so they can all blow really hard to help guide (or hinder) the ball into (or away from) the basket! FT shooting is perhaps the most team-oriented aspect of the game! It's why the Larry Brown Pistons were so awful - nobody would help Ben's FTs go in.
Ohhh wow, I've been playing basketball my whole life and have never done that before. So last year when Nurk sucked at free throws the team was like no fuck this make them yourself and now this year they are like here let me help you with that? It all makes sense now!
