I certainly don't want to trade Dame and would much rather start with CJ. But no matter what they got for CJ:
    • They wouldn't win any less games in the Playoffs then they had in the last 2 years. (sad but true)
    • Their defense would likely be better and could hardly be much worse.
    • Cap wise, they would likely be better off.

Any trade for Dame and youre hoping and praying even one piece you got in return is like half the player Dame is. Why would you do that? He hasnt said he wants to go AFAIK. Better strategy build around your superstar or shuffle him away and hope you find another one in the lottery someday?
Still say they shiukd try a new coach 1st. Be willing to trade CJ, Aminu, ET if needed to fit the new coaches systems in the somewht short term. Then long term if things arent working you ask Dame if he wants to stick around or go to a contender if its not looking like they’ll compete.

Exactly... what do you really have to lose when you think about it

Praying you get a player like Dame who puts up individual stats but can’t win a playoff game?? Ok bro...

Remember when Lebron couldnt get past the Celtics, or Detroit? Remember when Jordan couldnt either.

Acting like Dame gets you stats and thats it when he’s surrounded by that roster and that coach is just funny. Every player needs other good pieces to win in the playoffs. He’s the only reason they even sniff the playoffs.

Now you are comparing Dame to arguably the 2 greatest players in NBA history??! Wow... you have just hit a new level of delusion

Couldn't you make the argument that Indy is now stuck in mediocrity? They're 14-10 (just one game better than us, let that sink in). Sure, they have some good pieces but they have no chance at winning a title.

I just think it's a little weird to site them as an example of trading a star to get out of mediocrity. Heck, their teams with PG13, Roy Hibbert, David West, and George Hill were much better than their current roster.

No Im pointing out that saying a dude is an epic failure 6-7 years into their career is rediculous. Saying a dude cant win that early in their career is way too early.

Im not delusional I know Dame isnt either of those guys. Acting like well lets just trade Dame and be pathetically bad for a while in 4-5 years when they’ still finding lottery guys with bad knees and their winning 20 games a year will be less fun than being a 1st round playoff team.

You just proved my point... they traded their star and it didn’t take long to get to the level the Blzers are at now... you act like we will be missing out on something... this team can’t win a playoff game... I’d rather watch young players developed with hope than this dead end of McLillard...

I’d trade any ONE person on the roster if it guaranteed cap relief and the opportunity to draft Zion. Starting fresh with him as the the centerpiece surrounded with Zach and Simons sounds fun to me. When those 3 are 19-22 years old the rest of our shit contracts would be up also. Ok begin the bashing.

Dame is 28 and still can’t win a playoff game with a 120 mil payroll... so he puts up nice individual stats... woopdidoo

Zion looked good but maybe he should play an NBA game before we make him that good...

The problem is they could trade Dame lose the rest of the games this year and still not get the #1 pick.

Indy is in mediocrity....but I wasn't indicating that they weren't. Just that most people felt initially that they lost big on the trade and yet they were better the first year without him than before when they had him.

Just saying... he hasn’t really won anything when you think about it... odds don’t look good the next 2 years till contracts expire, then you hope some big name free agent wants to sign here for a non contending team when Dame is 30 and gets resigned at a supermax deal

He looks like he might be the reincarnation of in shape prime Charles Barkley imo, I think if you can pull a trade that gets you that pick you do it, especially since odds are that the GS window is still open for a couple more seasons.

Wait, you want to trade McLillard so we can stay right where we're at with no hopes of a title? Do you even read what you type?

How is it no hope if you have a younger nucleus with untapped potential getting you the same record as this treadmill team... do you understand logic?

I guess my question is would you rather make a trade that makes us better but still not contenders or a trade that makes us way worse but with a very slight chance to be great someday?

I just think mentioning a trade that kept the team in the exact situation this thread is complaining about seems really misguided.

I get it. He hasnt won anything by the way he has actually made it to the 2nd round twice. You can asterick them if you want but the fact remains.
I just believe that the problem last year in the playoffs was coaching, Gentry ran circles round Stotts. I think they have roster problems but they could get A LOT more from the current roster with a different set of eyes coaching them. Could they beat a healthy GS nope, but no one else probably will either.

I agree there are things about the CJ and Dame combo I really dont like, but Dame is far and away the better of the two. If you could trade CJ and get a good haul Id much rather go that route.
