Damn, I didnt know turning 22 meant you no longer had long-term potential. Thanks for enlightening me.

Potential is convenient, doesn’t require any accountability.

“He might be good one day.”

You know what? Thank YOU for enlightening me.

Classic from someone who realized they are wrong.

Love the "hot take" with no facts behind it, then go with "not interested"

While I laughed at the projection, I’m still not interested. Thanks though.

No worries. I, as well as the rest of the forum, expected nothing less.

I believe Olshey will do nothing to try improved this team.

Portland’s committed payroll for next season is roughly $126M (included Curry’s player option)

That’s $6M away from the tax line with only 12 players under contract.

So with that in mind, I could actually see Olshey attaching a protected first to a Turner or Harkless/Leonard package and going after Parker, or some other comparable expiring.

Do I agree with it? No, I don’t want to attach picks to dump contracts, but if you take all the moves in the last year and change into consideration, it makes sense.

    Dame - 30M/year
    CJ - 28M/year
    Porter - 27M/year

Blazers would be paying 85M/year for 3 players and only 1 of them earns the salary they get

Portland is in the mess they are because Olshey massively overpaid for production well below all-star level, and that definitely includes CJ. Your trade doubles-down on that loopy policy...sorry

Portland is already face-down in a cul-de-sac. Scooting deeper into that dead end just makes the situation worse

Portland can't get where they need to get without stepping back from their predicament , maybe by several steps. IMO, Portland will have to get worse before they get better because they need to dismantle significant parts of the roster....and there is not a magic-bullet-one-step move available

Here are the expirings that fall in the Turner/Harkless/Leonard range.

    Enes Kanter
    Wesley Matthews
    DeMarr Carroll
    Eric Bledsoe
    Tobias Harris
    Ricky Rubio
    Robin Lopez
    Taj Gibson
    Kenneth Faried
    Nikola Vucevic
    Wilson Chandler
    Marcin Gortat

Obviously not every team would be open to the scenario of adding $18-20M to their books next year in exchange for a first. I think Chicago might. Would Lopez help more than Parker? How about Carroll? I know Kanter would, but the Knicks are going to be players in free agency and probably wouldn’t be open to it.

Good idea: adding more life boats to the Titanic.
Bad idea: buying a life boat and paying for an aircraft carrier.

Better idea: bringing in a coach and GM who don't steer toward icebergs.

With a couple rookie guards waiting the wings and Sauce & Curry on the team with short deals, wouldn't it seem plausible that a trade of any kind (CJ) would include at least 1 of the guards I mentioned?
Curry with him gone next year (more than likely) sure, can help in the now, but imo, probably not much more than giving Anfernee or GT minutes instead. Something has to be brewing on the trade front one way or the another.

I just imagined my future shock if we signed ET again...even to the veteran's minimum. This never occurred to me before...

I think this quote by Olshey from the offseason is relevant right now.

”I think probably one of the things we were a little too conservative with this offseason and at the trade deadline was we were probably far too protective of our draft pick and our trade exceptions and the tools we had to continue to build the roster long-term,” Olshey said. “And maybe lost sight of the fact that the first round was going to be more competitive than we expected.”

If he is to be believed, lol, then Portlands pick is definitely in play. Whether it’s to dump a contract remains to be seen, but I personally think they would. As long as it’s heavily protected (top 20) I wouldn’t lose sleep over it, even if I’m against it. I like the financial breathing room it would provide.

Finally, say we traded Moe, Leonard, and a first for Jabari. We would also open up a roster spot for a buyout guy. Woj mentioned a couple weeks ago that there will be more activity on the buyout market this year than in years past. Maybe we pick up a Wes Matthews for the playoffs.

Thing is, Jaylen has achieved some sense of efficiency during his career.
