Nobody wanted this. The cause: Neil Olshey and Meyers Leonard.

"Early last season, Zach Collins got DNPs and Davis could relate. "Trust me, I know how anxious you are," Davis told him, continually reminding Collins that his time would come. On road trips, Davis made a point of stopping by the rookie's hotel room to see how he was doing.

"He didn't have to," Collins said. "He took time out of his own stuff or whatever he had going on and went and checked on me. We loved having him here. I'll never forget the lessons that we learned from him."

Davis' departure meant Collins' role would be elevated, but the 21-year-old center said he was "bummed out" when he saw the news and still misses him. As a rookie trying to learn the NBA, it helped hearing Davis' voice when they shared the floor.

"In one year, Ed had a profound effect on Zach and helped him become a better pro because of it," Portland coach Terry Stotts said."

    :sigh:

Ed only signed a one year deal with the Nets....he could become our new Steve Blake and we could sign him again for next year...fans would go crazy for the return of Ed Davis

If only we could trade Meyers for an expiring contract. He's improved his play that he's at least somewhat tradeable, right?

With Meyers gone, we could welcome back Ed

he's likely more trade-able now than he was a year ago, but he's only averaging 13 minutes. That's about $830,000 a minute, prorated for average. At that rate a team would have a payroll of 200M for their full 240 minutes. In other words, he's no bargain

Which raises an interestng question. Was Stotts on-board with this, or does Olshey just ignore him?
