How would we develop Collins though?

Great article. I'm really pulling for Noah.

There's quite a few lines in the article that are damning for Stotts coaching approach.

Fizdale is goung to have the Knicks in a great position in 2 years

Davis played 19 minutes a game last season. All those minutes opened up. But Zach is only playing 3.5 minutes more this year than last year. You also need to factor in the minutes Vonleh played. Davis was not standing in Zach's way. A big thing that is standing in Zach's way is that he's averaging 5.2 fouls per 36 this season compared to 4.6 last season. Either of those rates will limit minutes, and for sure, it seems every other game Zach has to be pulled because of his foul count

I love Ed but it had to be done. With the salary commitment to Leonard and the need for minutes for Collins, we simply could not pay additional luxury tax for Davis. There was virtually no flexibility otherwise on the roster to keep him. Hopefully his mark on the franchise stays a long time.

I never said Ed had to play, we just get rid of Swanigan's contract.

It's more fun for me if there is major roster change every year. But I want to get players for players. I want a GM with enough talent to trade, not just give away our best players. Any other GM would have anticipated upcoming tax/cap-necessary roster changes, and made appropriate trades months before he was inflexibly forced...and not booted out Davis involuntarily, or paid a team to take Vonleh.

As I have often said, Olshey wakes up only when forced by economics into an emergency move. Our new cheapskate owner will demand that his GM be more economical and less charitable to the rest of the league. Olshey lazily abused the last 6 years of his Paul Allen advantage.

The strategy of his 5-year plan has changed every year of its 6-year existence. Remember when his goal was to accumulate pieces, for future consolidation trades? No such trade ever happened. Instead, he gives away valuable pieces every year...in Davis' case, to make minutes for the unready Collins, who badly needed another year or two alongside Davis, to learn how not to foul. Olshey thinks that Collins a great shooter. From the 3, Collins is .321. Vonleh is .377.

Same way we develop him without Davis - a change in the coaching staff. It is obvious to everybody that the kid is struggling, and Stotts and company have apparently done nada to address it.

This. Davis was Collin's mentor, and a great one at that. I actually thought Zach was doing better under Ed's tutelage than he is now. Since we don't have a big man coach, then he's basically got nobody.....except Nurk. And not only are Nurk and Collin's games completely different, but I get the feeling Nurk isn't "mentor" material. That, and he just doesn't have the knowledge that Davis has picked up from 10 years in the league.

I haven't posted this for awhile:

Some say that financial reasons backed poor Olshey into a corner, forcing him to give away players in a panic, instead of trading them. I answer, who held a gun to his head in the corner and caused the situation? That guy should be fired!

The point is that if he had the ability to anticipate, Olshey wouldn't have annual financial emergencies.

And the answer to that is, he DOES know what's coming up in the next summer. He does nothing about it not due to lack of seeing the future, but due to lack of any talent to trade. Bring back Bob!

Sorry for the off-topic question......I saw a comment on a Mavericks forum that said this:

    Would you do it?

Heck yeah I'd do that! Wes is expiring. Barnes has a big number for next year but it's still less than CJ and has one less year. I'm not a fan of Dennis Smith Jr but we could definitely trade him somewhere else (Suns maybe for Mikal Bridges?)

Honestly, I don't think we can do much better than that for CJ and we get rid of Turner too, sign me up.

I love seeing trades from other fan bases because it shows how much non-biased people value our players and under/over value theirs.
