Which is why we could add someone putting up 25/8/5 with over 36% 3pt shooting at the 4 spot.

We need to take a risk with legitimate high end upside that could turn us into contenders. The risk is Griffin's health, but if healthy, we'd be legitimate contenders. Butler, Kawhi, Davis... They all would be likely to leave (Butler had character concerns as well). At least with Griffin you know you have a legitimate window. He's also changed his game and takes less hits and jumps to his full extent a lot less. I think it'll lead to him being more healthy as he ages.

Who else do you think we should take a chance on to become contenders? Kevin Love? He's a worse player, with a worse contract, who's just as injury prone. Other than that, what other all-star might be available at the deadline?

Don't be silly. He plays nothing like how he did at the start of career so using his injuries then to try to predict his health in the future isn't really viable. He's slowed down, jumps to his full extent less, and bangs inside a lot less.

The high-end upside is definitely worth it.

It's like you guys haven't watched him at all lately, with comments like "he relies on athleticism"... He has adapted his game well, and doesn't rely on athleticism any more than your average player now. His game will age much better than if he played like he used to, and should help him stay healthier in the present... But people think that he still relies on athleticism because they haven't watched him in a couple years.

Aging? He's 29 right now. He'll be 32 for most of his final season, and given the way he's adapted, I don't expect much fall off from who he is now.

You take the chance that he stays healthy in order to land a guy that could make the team contenders. We have to take a chance at some point to become contenders, and this is a situation where the pros outweigh the cons. The opportunity cost for this deal would be favorable.

Im actually impressed that Griffen has been able to grow his game as much as he has in between all the injuries. He’s a much more well rounded player now than even a couple years ago in my opinion.

    Agreed 100%

Blake would take this team to the next level.
Watch highlights of Blake from tonight’s game. Great playmaking.

Also making 2.3 3’s per game this year...if that doesn’t say he’s evolving as a player I don’t know what does

Exactly. He could easily play the "Draymond Green playmaker role" for us, and I would even go as far to stagger him to play him with bench unit in Evan Turner's "primary facilitator" role. With Meyers, Layman, and Curry, that would be a great, cohesive fit off the ball that Griffin could facilitate for.

Not to mention he could actually score the ball!

One super underrated thing about trading for Griffin (or any really bad contract) is that it does open up multiple roster spots. We've needed a good consolidation trade for 3 years now. Doing a 3 or 4 for 1 type of trade can have a big impact down the road because it opens up the possibility of making a lopsided trade the other way where we trade one player for several smaller ones or can become players on the buyout market. Who we add to fill those spots to me has to be included as part of the trade when you look back on it.

Keep in mind we also have the Vonleh Trade Exception so we could trade for someone without having to cut someone too.

This isn't from another forum but Zach Lowe had 11 trades for Ben Simmons today. One of them was CJ, Collins, and a 1st round pick. I'm not a fan of Simmons but you absolutely make that trade without hesitation if you're Portland. Worst case scenario it doesn't work and you trade Simmons this summer.

That is an unbelievable deal for a guy I consider to be a future transcendental talent. Hell, I'd reluctantly put Dame on the table for Simmons.

Philly is being stupid. They're ready to break up a Simmons-Embiid core for the next ten years to placate Jimmy Butler? Or maybe it's because they can't manage two young talents? They can't be that dumb, can they? They should invest in a better culture or veteran leadership that will help those two cope. It's the modern day Shaq-Penny.

To be fair, it's not coming from Philly. This is the equivalent of Lowe doing an article on Dame trades.

Allegedly, the reasoning behind potentially splitting up Embiid and Simmons is primarily because Simmons can't play outside. He and Embiid often crowd one another in the post. Wouldn't be so much of a problem if they could play the fast-paced transition game Simmons wants, but Embiid is much more half-court, so he's almost always trailing fast breaks.

Honestly, I would think decent coaching would be able to alleviate those issues, but for some reason Brett Brown apparently hasn't quite been able to figure it out yet.

Depends on how we do this year in the playoffs and Dame's mindset, but if we could land Simmons on a rookie deal in exchange for paying Dame his supermax, I'd seriously consider it.

    (Sorry, Blazer bball Gods).

Simmons contract is up after next year so it's a rookie deal for only one more year

I have no ideas what it will be for but many players make a lot of money but aren't supermax contracts. I'm not even sure Simmons would qualify for a supermax. McCollum doesn't have a max contract and neither does Lillard.

um no. Dame's next contract will most likely be a super max in the range of a 5/235. Simmons is on a diff scale

    You missed my main point.

1st neither one of us have any real insight as to what Simmons will be offered.

2nd A player can still be paid a ton of money and not be a max contract so saying Simmonns won't get a supermax isn't all that relevant in what i was discussing. Did i miss something?

Simmons inability to shoot would be a major concern for our system. However, you still probably do the above deal.

I look at it this way: Would CJ, Collins, and a 1st round pick get you Anthony Davis? Probably not considering what teams like the Lakers and Celtics could possibly offer this summer.

However, if we called them this summer and offered Ben Simmons (plus salary filler) for Anthony Davis then you have a damn good chance of having the best offer.

Too bad it would never happen.
