Trump passed a budget in 2017 without holding federal employees hostage.

Republicans controlled ALL branches of government.

Why are we talking about this now??

They could've even done it with reconciliation only requiring 50 Senate votes.

Why didn't they pass funding for Trump's wall then??

The president manufactured a crisis that we're responding to.

If he didn't lie about terrorists coming through the southern border to get his wall....

Has anyone put all of his ridiculous "Mexico will pay" speeches together and switched it out with "USA"?

"Who will pay for the wall? USA!"

    Who? USA!

We don't pay for anything though. Maybe he meant we'd borrow the money from Mexico.

Great! We don't need a loan though. They are supposed to pay for it. When Mexico gives us the money he can build the wall.

Doesn't matter who gives it to us if we don't pay it back.

Didn't you read my response to you? Tsk, tsk. Read what I wrote before you go half cocked.
Did you read the part about the more advanced measures they now have?
Also, I'll bet you didn't know that Obama proposed a wall in order to get those ass holes in Congress to do the right thing with the DACA people. It was a hostage taking deal, something that is a Trump specialty.

I've checked all 70 of his speeches where he claims Mexico will pay for the wall and I can't find a single instance where he even hints that we had to borrow money from Mexico to pay for his
    cockamamie wall.

I know he didn't say we'd borrow it from Mexico.

Did you find one where he said Mexico would just offer up a check?

Again, if you knock over my mailbox and I say you're gonna pay for it, does that mean that I'll accept anything other than cash or a check?
No, once again, he litterly didn't say Mexico would write a check but he did say they'd pay for it.
I defy you to find a business that will accept as payment their simple requirement for you to pay it without some sort of agreement regarding that charge. Simply saying "I'm going to wave my magic wand and you will then pay the bill" just doesn't cut it. Nope, in the English language saying Mexico will pay for it strangely enough implies that Mexico will pay for it and not us.
Geez, why is this so difficult to sink in?

It doesn't need to set in. They could have passed a flat fee on remittances when the Republicans had the majority.

That they didn't doesn't mean it couldn't have been done. They could have replaced Obamacare with something much better too. Whatever that is.

Hey, just realized Medicare for all paid for by a tax on remittances to everywhere in the world.

    Vote for me

    Drones, for one.
Trail cameras and listening devices to detect tunnels being dug and people crossing the border and then there are drones that are far far more superior. One drone of interest is the Predator.
There may be other measures but I don't know of them.
You couple this with increased border patrol agents and you've got a more secure border than wasting money on a wall. Did you know that virtually all suspected terrorists come here on ships and airplanes? 6 have been arrested lately on our Southern border, 31 arrested at the border with Canada and 3,953 from other entry means. Also, 90% of drugs pass through our legal entry points. That leaves women, children, families and disease ridden immigrants carring Ebola and cancer coming up here by the 100s of thousands in massive caravans of 20,000 to 50,000, that's a lot of buses, well, I guess it's about 400,000 total with at least that many headed back. Net influx is zero.

Uhhhhh. We all like talking about logic.

Wouldn't you think our southern border is a better way for a terrorist to get here? Or at least a 50/50 split even yet we caught 31 at the north and only 6 in the south.

I'd say if we're catching less at the most likely crossing we're actually just not catching them.

If you took me to the middle east and took my passport and said "find your own way home without getting caught"

I'm trying to take a ship to Mexico and walk home.

The border patrol is our most corrupt agency. On average over the last 3+- years, one agent is "caught" every month taking bribes. The amount of money offered by the cartels is too great a temptation for some agents.

It makes me wonder if some of the ranchers and tribes along the border are also taking bribes.

A multi layer security system has proven to be the most effective to stop illegal entry into a country.

For open areas it starts with some sort of physical barrier (security fence or wall).

The physical barriers have sensors if anyone tries to climb over, or, tunnel under it.

Motion detectors can be added to barriers to increase the distance covered from the barrier.

Migrants from Terrorist Nations Try to Enter U.S. Via Mexico at Record Rates—300% Hike in Bangladeshis in Texas Alone
    JANUARY 11, 2019

Federal agents along the southern border routinely encounter individuals from terrorist nations and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) considers them one of the top threats to the United States, according to a congressional report made public this month. Titled “Stopping Terrorist Travel Through Illicit Pathways to the Homeland,” the document outlines the findings of a lengthy investigation involving Special Interest Aliens (SIA) by the House Homeland Security Committee. SIA’s are individuals from countries outside the western hemisphere—mostly the Middle East, Asia and Africa—that pose a national security risk to the U.S. In Laredo, Texas alone there was an astounding 300% increase in immigrants from Bangladesh, a south Asian Islamic country well known as a recruiting ground for terrorist groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

Congressional investigators found that the number of SIAs flowing north via Latin America has increased tremendously in the last few years thanks to established Transitional Criminal Organizations (TCO) that facilitate travel along drug and migrant smuggling routes. “On a recent Committee staff delegation trip to Latin America, Panamanian officials communicated to Committee staff that tens of thousands of SIAs have entered Panama since 2014,” the report states. “Colombian officials communicated similar numbers to Committee staff, stating that hundreds of SIAs have entered Colombia each year for the past few years. In both countries, nearly all the SIA migrants were headed to the United States and originated from the Middle East, Asia, and Africa—including Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bangladesh, India, Eritrea, and many others. Additionally, encounters with these special interest individuals resulted in the seizure of tens of thousands of fraudulent documents—including passports and visas—that facilitated travel from their countries of origin through the Americas.”

The report includes several disturbing cases of Islamic terrorists who made it to the U.S. via Mexico. Among them are Mohammad Aldairi, a Jordanian arrested last summer in New York for illegally smuggling SIAs from Yemen across the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas. Others include Pakistani Sharafat Ali Khan, convicted for smuggling fellow Pakistanis with terrorism ties into the U.S.; Somalian Abdullah Omar Fidse, a member of the al-Shabaab terrorist group; Somalian Ahmed Muhammed Dhakane, a member al-Qaeda linked al-Barakat and Al-Ittihad Al-Islami and Lebanese Mahmoud Yousef Kourani, a fighter, recruiter and fundraiser for Hezbollah. Kourani paid a Beirut consular officer $3,000 for a Mexican visa and an additional $4,000 to be smuggled across the U.S.- Mexico border, according to information included in the report. Some of the other SIAs also operated smuggling rings through south and central America.

“Latin America and the Caribbean are the major initial entry points to the Western Hemisphere for SIAs,” the House Homeland Security Committee report states. “Many countries in the region continue to face economic and governance challenges, as well as consistently high levels of violent crime. Additionally, many of the countries in the Americas have lenient visa and immigration policies in place, even for individuals from ‘special interest’ countries. Lastly, the frequency of international flights from ‘special interest’ regions around the world into Latin America and the Caribbean continues to increase. These regional issues create an attractive environment for illicit travel of SIAs and other nefarious actors into the Western Hemisphere with the end goal of reaching the United States.” Adding to the problem is that Hezbollah is “growing at an alarming rate in Latin America,” according to Committee investigators. “Designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the State Department, Hezbollah has been operating in Latin America since the early 1990s when it worked with Iran to carry out the 1994 bombing of a Jewish Community Center in Argentina,” according to the report.

The House investigation found that, as of September 2018, a record 630 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested trying to enter the U.S. illegally in Laredo, Texas alone. That marks a 300% increase from the previous year. “The routes facilitating the illicit travel of these Bangladeshis are mostly controlled by TCOs and drug cartels, which charge tens of thousands of dollars to smuggle SIAs and other migrants across the U.S.,” the committee writes. It also confirms what Judicial Watch reported months ago, that the recent migrant caravan has included several SIAs and suspected terrorists. Judicial Watch traveled to the Guatemala-Honduras border back in October and government sources in Guatemala confirmed that SIAs waiting to get smuggled into the U.S. through Central America integrated with poor Hondurans in the caravan. Among them were nationals of Bangladesh, which appears on the Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control’s Counter Terrorism Designations list.
