Exactly. Zach is fine, but we are talking about Blake Griffin! It isn't hard to see that Zach will never be a star, won't ever make an All-Star game, but will probably be an okay player...a defensive specialist, maybe. But surely there'll be another mid-level talent we can get our hands on in the next 5 years to make up for losing Zach....ffs. The madness!

Something seems like it's changed with Blake. And picturing him with Dame... That would be something.

Ive read of enough of @JDC posts that I respect his abity to “scout players”, and heck maybe he see’s something I dont and thats fair, Id just like someone to explain what that is. Seems like the guys who like Zach, really, really like Zach, which is fine.

I think he's got the IQ and skill level to have an all-star level impact.

I don't think he'll be an all-star player in the traditional sense since I don't think he has that type of scoring upside, but he could easily be a 60%+ TS on 19-22% usage type with very good defense. He's vastly under performed as a shooter, but he has the touch and natural release/lean on his shot to be a pretty high % on decent volume shooter w/ face-up ability once he's given the opportunity.

I also don't buy into Blake making us a contender.

maybe I have too restrictive a defintion for things like 'core' and 'mortgaging the future'

to me, mortgaging-the-future would be giving away a player who has a good shot of being part of a 'big-3' for a playoff team, and giving him away for a win-now asset. I don't think Zach has a ceiling close to big-3 level. Portland has 1 big-3 piece in Dame; they might have one in Nurkic, but he has quite a ways to go yet. They don't have any other candidate on a roster filled with role players. I wouldn't hesitate to give up a role player, even a high level one, for an elite talent. 26 year old Griffin was definitely an elite talent, but durability is a big worry for sure, enough to think he might not be an elite talent anymore. But 25pts-8reb-5ast with a .593 TS% is pretty impressive....and he'd fit great with Dame

I do like Zach's upside and I agree with Dame that he could be an all defensive player down the road if not earlier. However, Ive been a believer that this team needs an all-star caliber forward 3 or 4 take you're pick for a while. If Griffin expressed that he would like to be here, I could see him be a complimentary piece. Plus he can shoot!

Yeah, the ole non-traditional all-star now averaging 7/4/1 versus the 5x actual all-star who is less than a year older than Dame and is averaging 25/8/5. Whatever. And if pairing Dame Blake and Nurk doesn't make us contenders than we should just blow the whole thing up, because wtf would it take then?

A top 5 player and playoff quality depth. The same two things needed since forever. And after a Blake trade we'd still not have the former and even less of the latter.

And the NBA is not championship or bust. A successful, profitable, small market team like Portland isn't just going to blow it up because they don't think they can win it all. It's just not how it works no matter how much some fans might want it to be.

I still wouldn't mind having him on our roster.

I think the way Jake is playing and his upcoming free agency puts even more of an emphasis on Olshey dumping a contract.

Ideally he'd find a team that could give the Blazers both some financial relief and a player that’d help them out. Atlanta lines up with Portland perfectly imo.

    This is my favorite one

*Plus our first either this year or 2020. Maybe they throw in one of their seconds this year.

This will make re-signing our own easier as well as open up the full MLE. It also opens up a roster spot for the buyout market.

Not sure about this Detroit in the 2000's made their run of making the ECF's by not having a top 5 player, but by having a whole bunch of very good players. Now with the inception of teams like Golden State maybe that doesn't work anymore. However, if they were able to pull in a player similar to Blake talent wise and put that player with Dame and Nurk, they would at least be a top 2-3 team in the west which would mean probably facing the warriors in the wcf.

It's the last year of Warriors superteam though, I truly believe. Next year the ground will be more equal, Warriors will not be at their 15-16 level let alone current team, there will genuinely be 6-8 contenders and with 3-4 good moves we could become one.

    https://www.theringer.com/nba/2019/1/17/18185948/cj-mccollum-aaron-gordon-nba-trade-who-says-no

Ringer suggests McCollum, Leonard, and a first for Gordon and Ross.

Pretty detailed article, relatively speaking, even if I don’t agree with the outline of the deal. Orlando would have to add something else imo. The trade as constructed is pretty much Leonard and a first for Ross, which makes sense, and McCollum for Gordon, which doesn’t.

Can’t see Olshey doing this during the season though. Someone like Prince, or just Ross, is more likely.
